Well I am sat here with my iPad mumbling away to myself, as one does. What are you mumbling about says my wife. Trying to match up trains to get to St Jean I boldly retort. Well she was a safe distance away.

Why says she, so I can go walking says I, again getting bolder by the second.

When you going says she, now having looked up and looking at me.

Why the 15th of May says I, a little less bold due to the death stare I now found myself in.

Ha says she, I just got the date for my knee replacement, oh says I rather sheepishly now that the stare is getting worse.

When's that I slip in under my breath. End of April she says without a breath, actually don't think she breathed throughout the whole conversation.

Oh says I, what about my backpack, Swiss Army knife and socks.

Sure they will keep till later in the year says she

September may be a nice time to walk pitifully cries I.

I'm sure she retorts in that way that only wives, mother and head mistresses can do.

So September it is

In 2015 me and wife walked the CF in september, 7 months after her second knee replacement. We did it without any major problem (using bag transport for her ,of course) but she was definely convinced it was a bitt too early. In fact we went backagain this year and everything was ok .

Wonderful Ian. You can look forward to it now. Get your tickets!

Ha ha - I was looking forward to May, booking tickets today!!! Still now I have the additional joy of researching September. Perhaps I will post a thread on should I take a bag or a liner. Perhaps not eh.

We're all very brave when we don't have to deal with the Death Star, I mean death stare..:)
Buen Camino.

You know on reflection I think you got it right the first time. She picks on me cos I is little and she is very very tall.

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

€46,-
€2,-/day will present your project to thousands of visitors each day. All interested in the Camino de Santiago.
I always used to say
"There are three sorts of accountant - those that can count and those that can't"

So I see what you mean and they have to come before all else - I know, she told me so

Hey Ian--I started my walk in 2015 1 October, and I loved it! Hot the first couple weeks (although big storm crossing the Pyrenees) but then cold bright crisp days second half. I was freezing at night a few times from Leon onward to SdC, so if you go later, pack layers and stay warm!

I walked in March / early April, and must say I preferred the autumn months, with beautiful colors of red and orange on the trees, and the bright blue skies....

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
second half of September will probably be a better bet ... crowds easing off (hopefully)
Not the slightest chance, say I softly.
Actually, it peaks... add I, thinking of SJPdP statistics.
One of the 2 worst peaks through the year, elaborate I.
But still walk a great Camino you will, end I before turning completely green.
May the Camino be with you!

Good to know, I only walked from Sarria in Sept. and it was not too busy at all, we only had to try a few places in Portomarin before we got a bed, everyplace else was grand.

Ah aren't I blessed that I am the wifey and make all the decisions . ...;)
Me too. When I announce my departure, my husband never complains. Maybe I should worry about that, but I don't!

We save our death stares for important things, like whose junk is occupying the kitchen table. He who stays home from Spain gets to make all the decisions then.

I didn't pick it: My (female...) Spanish teacher did!:):)
Women... LOL
Yes, it is a masculine noun and it perfectly illustrates the humourous point about problems and solutions! I just pointed out that the word is spelled "problema" (not problemo) which is an exception to the general rule that nouns ending in "a" are feminine!

I am female. You can trust me! :p

Hello, Ian! I had a good laugh reading your post as I look out my window and snow & sleet falling in Pennsylvania!

I walked the Camino in September this year. I researched the Camino a couple of years before I took the plunge this year. I'll share a couple of observations.

I debated about a bag liner vs. a sleeping bag and settled on a lightweight one-season sleeping bag and was glad I did. I started Sept. 2 from SJPP. We had highs in the 90sF (35C+/-). By the end I was starting the day around 40F ( 5C), so the bag was appreciated more at the end than the beginning.

Also, I was told that the week I started was the busiest week ever on the Camino. I don't know if that was accurate, but beds were hard to come by the first several days. At Roncesvalles, the lady working in the laundry room said she heard they put up 390 pilgrims the day before. They're listed as having about 180 beds. I heard they put up over 300 the day I was there. I was fortunate to have reserved a bed at Orisson about two months in advance, so I got to Roncesvalles early enough to get a bed in the renovated section. Also, I signed up for the pilgrim's dinner and was seated with a wonderful Aussie couple who made reservations for the entire table in Zibriri. Many pilgrims had to go on to the next town or two to find a bed the next day. I got a Spanish SIM card in Pamplona and started making reservations to relieve the stress and worry of finding a bed. I was not expecting these crowds. I thought Sept would be a slow time as students should be back in school, but I heard it's a prime time due to good weather. Later on, the crowds eased up, even as I approached Santiago. Beds became plentiful. I will say that I was blessed in that I only got rained on slightly once in 39 days, which is very unusual.

Whenever you go, prepare and be flexible, make friends, and you will enjoy!

Buen Camino!!!

Obviously you are not American? No wait maybe you are. Aren't they accused of being a bit sexist and would never say such things for fear of being blamed for said accusations? I'm so confused! Anyway, great Camino vino conversation!

Hey

This is really great, thank you for taking the time to post such a wonderful account. September does indeed look busy and I thought it would be really much slower than May and June.

Oh well I am sure it will all work out right

Cheers

Obviously so, unless they moved Yorkshire to the good old U S of A.

No wait I have no idea of such accusations laid against em.

I have asked my wife and she says I am not sexist just very short!!! So that rules that one out.

So I am confused as well

Have fun

Thanks

I know this, I have told many in my travels, I always say a man only finds true happiness when he realises he has no say, no control and not much else. Hand it all over and life starts to chill.

Just wish someone would tell the knee surgeon, he has terrible timing, bless him

Ah ha what a wonderful idea - but on the other hand they may gang up on me. Think we stick with the one she got, he looks like he can wield a goodly knife

September is quite a lovely time for the Camino. I walked Sept 18-Oct 25 in 2015. Two really miserable days, 7 or 8 misty/cool days. The rest were beautiful. As was the experience.
