Betanzos - Bruma Bus Accessibility

Hola a todos,
In July I'll walk from Ferrol to Santiago, Lord willing. For various reasons I'll walk from Pontedeume to Betanzos, stay the night, walk as far as I can the next day toward Hospital de Bruma, then go back to Betanzos to stay a second night. The following day I'd like to get transport back to where I left off, and then continue to Sigüeiro.

If you've already walked the stretch between Betanzos and Bruma, how accessible are buses from Betanzos to somewhere close to Bruma (like, did you notice any buses going by as you walked? :D)? Or do I need to budget and plan to take taxis those couple of days between my stopping point and Betanzos, and Betanzos back to the stopping point?

Thanks for any info you can give :)
Faith

Hi Faith
I'm watching for responses to this thread.
I hit betanzos tomorrow.

Hi @miguel_gp, I'm playing around with different options (including staying at MdV) but the hotel in Betanzos requires a 2-night stay that week in July. So I just booked both nights to be safe, thinking I'd try to see about transport details. The attractive things about staying 2 nights in Betanzos are that I do like the town, and I can walk toward Bruma with just a daypack (having left the backpack in the hotel room). Antonio's hotel and service sound like a good option, though, if it's just not worth it financially to pay for a taxi back and forth.

Hopefully the weather in July will be cooler than it has been this weekend in Santiago!

Thanks for searching around.

Surely your hotel in Betanzos can recommend a taxi that you could contact in advance to work out the price, to allow you to plan. If you get their WhatsApp, you can send your exact location when you are ready to be picked up --- a marvelous feature I wish I had back when I walked in 2014!!

The service from Meson Novo is fabulous ... and their hotel rate is a less than Garelos (assuming that's the place in Betanzos). Although 2 nights in Betanzos would be lovely! Buen Camino to you, however it works out!!

I have walked this route lots of times but have never seen a bus or a bus timetable. But there are lots of bus shelters because this is where I usually stop for a break and there is usually somewhere to sit undercover. If you are staying at the Garelos in Betanzos the staff there are very helpful and can speak English.

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
Hi Faith, do you need to go back to Betanzos? Are you aware that Antonio at Meson Novo in Meson Do Vento will pick up before Meson and drop back the next day if you stay there. I'm afraid I don't know about the buses but will search around.
I came across this document which shows some, but very limited, bus activity between Betanzos, Presedo and Carral. Carral would connect with the Coruna - Santiago bus that passed through Meson Do Vento. Doc dates from Feb 2016 so might be worth asking in the Galicia Tourist Office in Rua Vilar to see of they have more up to date info.

Thanks @madrid12. I am staying in Hotel Garelos and had to book a minimum of two nights. So I'll see what can happen.

And thanks @miguel_gp. Very helpful to have. I'll swing by the Galicia Tourist Office when I get a moment. Or write Hotel Garelos on booking.com's chat feature - I've written them a bunch of times already but not yet about buses or taxis. Gracias!

I have stayed there twice for just one night each trip. They may not require a two-night stay if you tell them you are a pilgrim. It is behind the post office, and just a little bit hard to find without Google maps!

Hola falcon, yes, I think they normally are OK with just one night but since I'll be there around the Renaissance fair(e) they have that requirement surrounding those days. Other hotels/ hostales are busy or full as well. Those Renaissance people, still causing trouble all these years later! :D

Thanks for the tip on location!

Hi @natefaith
I'm taking my time in C.I. As it has been quite hot. Today was great.
I have not seen a bus in this route in 5 days though.
I passed the Bruma Albergue today. It looks fine too. Would you consider staying there.
I have been doing some pm'ing to @miguel_gp
And decided to stay 2 nights at
Meson Nova. Antonio (tony) has picked me up and dropped me back each morning .
Today he dropped me back to yesterday's finish at bar Julia and I walked thru and past Bruma.
A further 8 k to Buscas. This makes tomorrow more doable. Tony will drop me back to Buscas tomorrow morning.
He also can arrange a massage for sore bodies, legs etc
Plenty of choices to eat in this village also .

Ps. I hope to see you at your pilgrim house this weekend. I used the laundry service there last October. (You were not there then but the other ladies were very helpful and friendly.

Hi Annie,
Great to hear how it's going. We'll be around Pilgrim House this weekend and would love to see you!

This evening it's cooled off substantially. Hopefully tomorrow will be even nicer for walking.

Buen Camino!
Faith
