My film of the Mozárabe from Málaga to Finisterre

I have finally completed and uploaded to Youtube my presentation of my recent walk along the Camino Mozárabe.

It gives a flavour of the way along the Mozárabe from Málaga to Mérida, the Via de la Plata from Mérida to Granja de Moreruela, the Camino Sanabrés from Granja to Santiago de Compostela and finally the Camino Fisterra from Santiago to Finisterre - the end of the world.

Find a bit of space to watch it - it lasts for fifty minutes but was well received without any yawning or snoring by an audience of over thirty last week

(Edited July 2017 to upload new version of video featuring music with the kind permission of "The Moon Loungers" - look them up on Youtube, Bristol (UK) based acoustic musicians, I think the music fits the video really well.

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

€2,-/day will present your project to thousands of visitors each day. All interested in the Camino de Santiago.
Thanks for posting! I enjoyed reliving my Mozárabe walk from Granada of last September/October. From Castro del Río to Mérida we pretty much did the same stages except that I walked from Castro to Córdoba in one day. I too walked from Medellín to Mérida, a long 45 km- I had been completely alone for 15 days and just wanted to see another pilgrim!
All in all I am very glad that I did it but must give credit to Gert-Jan and Maria in Cerro Muriano. After a week by myself (not one pilgrim sighting) I had contemplated jumping up to the Plata but after a warm welcome and dinner with them I had the mental energy to continue on to Mérida.

I would like to do it again (with company this time) and preferably from Málaga although I may think about the Almería route so it was nice to see that stretch in your video.

@peregrina2000 Laurie take a look at the stretch from Málaga to Mérida. This route meets up with the one from Almería (and Granada and Jaén) in Baena. Just in case you want to do both;).

Thanks for this different (flowery ;)) view of a Camino. It was nice to see what it's up to be walked and also that what have been and seen in different manner. I've seen lots of your photos in your blog but watching them compiled all together is something else. Thanks again!!!

Ultreia!

Thank you so much: it must have taken you much time and effort to compile this great video It was not 1 sec. waste of time!

It was so fun seeing and remembering places I have previously walked, and I am even more set on the Mozarabe/VdlP (2nd) next spring, albeit starting in Almeria: I want to pass Granada and visit Alhambra. Thank you again for your great work!

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

Thanks for sharing enjoyed every minute of it. It brought back many happy memories.

Hi @LTfit. Yes, a lonely route. I was very glad to have found a walking partner via this forum. We saw only three pilgrims in eighteen days, and they had walked from Granada. That walk from Medellin to Merida at 45 km's was my longest walk ever, and I arrived to be told there was no room at the inn (albergue). But after I stamped my feet (and probably shed one or two tears) a bed was miraculously found in a dusty corner and I had my first Mozárabe experience of being surrounded by pilgrims. Quite a shock to the system after so long in the company of just one other.

Gert-Jan and Maria in Cerro Muriano were kind and caring hospitaleros, and about the only time on this section that we were actually 'hosted' rather than given a key and left to our own devices.

For the most part the Mozárabe amigos had done a great job with signage and setting up albergues in the villages en route.

I found the whole experience from Málaga to Finisterre to be a wonderful camino and once we ran into other pilgrims I made some great friends along the way.

Thanks @KinkyOne. I'm so glad you liked the video. Primarily I made it for myself and to present to a local (garden) club I belong to (they have invited me to make a presentation after each of my three caminos, which is a great incentive to actually focus my mind on a deadline - otherwise it would still be on my 'to do' list).

As my audience are all keen gardeners, I have always included a lot of the flowers that I so enjoy photographing, but perhaps I shall reduce the amount I include in any future videos, to keep them a bit shorter!

Many thanks @alexwalker for your kind comment. It did indeed take a very long time to put together, not least because I was battling with a shiny new MacBook Pro and iMovie software, which I anticipated would make this task a breeze, but actually created many hours of frustration. But luckily I had committed to a date to present the finished product to a local club, otherwise it would most likely never have been finished.

You will love Granada and the Alhambra - if you can afford the time it will be a fantastic city to take a day off, as will be Córdoba. Both places are very compact and easy to get a feel for in a day.

Magwood,
I share Alex's delight in your film; bravo for a great show! Although I have never walked that route after my first camino my husband and I celebrated Christmas visiting the Alhambra. What memories!! Visitors should be aware that it is generally necessary to have a reserved ticket for admission. See more info at this link.

Thank you Margaret, I'm so glad you like it. I visited Granada recently (for a Bob Dylan concert) but didn't go to the Alhambra as I have visited a few times already. You are correct about needing to reserve a visiting time beforehand.

There are also some beautiful gardens to visit and just strolling around the old quarter drinking in the atmosphere (and also drinking a few copas de vino!)

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
Your work is stunning. I have walked eight Camino routes in a little over four years. Walked Pyrénées, Alps etc. and also photographed them, spent weeks on end in front of a computer editing my work. I have seen a lot of Camino photos, yours brought a tear to me eye. Well done. Lovely piece.

Thank you Dermot (@nalod). I am so pleased that you like the film. I have made a video for each of my three caminos for presentation to a local club. I have learned a lot from looking at others' work and I was quite pleased with this one, although I have lots of ideas to make my next one better. It is a great way to relive the camino and keep it fresh in my mind

It means a great deal to me that you have taken the trouble to tell me that you enjoyed it.

A lovely presentation @Magwood - seductively led me astray for nearly an hour. Not kind, when guests are expected! I also loved the flowers and it was good to see them featured.

Sorry @Kanga to disrupt your schedule - I hope you put your feet up whilst you were watching and you were feeling relaxed when your guests arrived. And many thanks for your kind comments.

Great video @Magwood and it has really inspired me. I'm planning to walk the Mozárabe from Málaga to Mérida, then onto the Via de la Plata from Mérida to Granja de Moreruela and then via the Camino Sanabrés from Granja to Santiago de Compostela starting in April 2016. What did you use to plan the route, albergues etc? Any hints and tips? I speak fluent Spanish and have done the Camino Francés, Norte and Inglés before.

Hello @Ant. I'm so pleased to be able to stir some inspiration. I used various materials I downloaded from the Internet for my Camino Mozarabe from Malaga to Mérida. I'm sure you will know of the friends' guide mentioned in another thread Spanish version and also in English.

I also gleaned info from descriptions accompanying gps routes shared on wikiloc, which might mention places to stay and other useful info.

I printed off a couple sheets with stages and albergue contact details. I haven't got access to this at the moment as I am away from home, but will try to remember to send this to you when I return in ten days or so.

There is also a lot of information in my blog http://magwood.me/camino-mozarabe/

Did you see my recent post about a friend who wants to walk the Mozarabe from Malaga in April who is looking for a walking partner?

Buen Camino!

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
Thanks for the above, that will save me some time scouring the internet. I hadn't seen your post re a walking buddy. I'm flying to Malaga on the 6th April so it looks like I will be ahead of your contact.

I started 8 April last year. I hope you are as lucky with the weather as I was.

Hello again Maggie,

Finally watched this video last night and pleased I did. As usual, you write well and make good use of your camera. Pity there were no flowers to photograph though;)

Looks and sounds like you really enjoyed this trip. Thanks for sharing it.

I'll look forward to your next blog.

Apart from being green with envy and insane with jealousy to the point I could only watch half of the video before getting ready to hurl my ruck out of the window, what a great camino you had! I have been nibbling at this route for years and have got as far as Caceres by bus, train, taxi, thumb and two feet. I simply cant walk the distances required between accommodation and water. I will be 79 in July and off in May for another nibble. The only way out is to cycle and I am loath to do this. I see my consultant (Meniere's) 13 March and will take final advice :) oh yeah? I live in Weston! Have been involved with camino now for 14 years and have 3 compostelas but simply cant let go of the veedlepee!
Yours in frustration,

The Malingerer.

Thanks, Maggie!!! ;)

Good luck with the consultant's appointment @malingerer.

There are some logistical problems on this camino, and I pushed myself beyond my comfort zone on occasion. But overall I feel it was my favourite camino. Something about walking from home was very satisfying, and I was very, very lucky with the people I met along the way, particularly forum member @george.g. I walked with the attitude that I wouldn't beat myself if I wanted to give up and complete another year. But in fact I never once felt I wanted to stop, even when I reached Finisterre I wanted to keep going.

I am visiting my daughter in Locking next week, so we will be neighbours briefly.

Buen camino!

Hello,

I'm trying to watch your video from the US and it is blocked because of copyright reasons. Do you have any other manner to access it other than youtube?

A lovely presentation @Magwood - seductively led me astray for nearly an hour. Not kind, when guests are expected! I also loved the flowers and it was good to see them featured.

How did you see the video Kanga ? it comes up on my screen saying blocked in your country due to copyright issues.

This is an old thread, @camino07, and my message was posted November 2015, when I watched it. When I try to view it now I get the same message as you. Presumably YouTube imposed restrictions sometime between 2015 and now.

Thanks for trying to view the video. It was good for over. 5,000 views which I think might be the point at which it is reviewed for copyright. I have permission from a band to use their music but it is a lot of work to redo it. I will get around to it, hopefully in the next couple of months. I will have to upload it again to YouTube and so there will be a different link. I will post again when it is done.

You also have it on your blog (the same link) so just point folks there when you upload it again and they'll surely find it ;)

It's a copyright issue with Sony Music Entertainment. I can see from a post in the thread above, that I viewed it on Feb 18 last. As you say must be a threshold when copyright issues kick in.

I know. That's exactly what I wrote in bracket = the same link.
Just wanted to give Maggie a piece of advice which I know she doesn't need though :)

OK folks, I have now spent quite a few frustrating hours editing the video to include music from musicians called "The Moon Loungers" - fabulous vocals and acoustic guitars and am really happy that the music fits well with the images. The lovely guys from the Moon Loungers have given me permission to use their music so hopefully this video will stay put on Youtube for anyone who wants to take a look. You can see many videos of these guys on Youtube, they are a Bristol (UK) based group primarily playing at weddings - well worth looking them up.

@izzybella9 and @camino07 please try the new link below.

Now to start work on the next camino video from 2017, Caminos Madrid, San Salvador, Primitivo and Fisterra!

Thanks Heather, glad you liked it. What did you think of the music (honest opinion please)?
