Hi,

Just throwing an idea out here to the forum community:

Saint James Day (25th July, but that you know already ;-) is close and I wonder if there would be an interest in having an impromptu bring and share/potluck dinner on the evening of the 24th July and then walk together to Alameda park (5min from my place) and watch the fireworks together?

I completely understand if you just want to go with the flow and enjoy the fireworks with your pilgrim friends, just throwing some ideas around here ;-)

Added the US term, thanks, would love to meet you also one day (again? we might have been hospitalera in Ponferrada at the same time?). BC SY

Dear SYates,
My wife and I would love to join you, but we will not have arrived as pilgrims. That journey has had to be postponed until next year for health reasons.
We decided to come to Santiago anyway to celebrate the feast day.
It would be lovely to meet you anyway.

I'd be interested in this for sure. I arrive in Santiago for the first time on the 24th and I'm a bit worried I'll be overwhelmed by what I should do or avoid at such a busy time so it'd be nice to do something like this if I don't end up tagging along with other pilgrims I meet along the way.

Welcome to the forum @Vagrant Santiago tends to be extremely lively around Saint James day - make sure you have a reservation for a bed! Just go with the flow after that ;-) either with those that meet at my place or with other pilgrim friends. Buen Camino, SY

Yeah no worries there, I booked two nights at an albergue in town a month ago.

With the likely high traffic, what recommendations do you have re: going to the office to get the compostella and the Pilgrim Mass? My understanding is that if I have the stamps I can potentially just do it on my return from Finisterre/Muxia?

12:00 mass on the 24th/25th will be extremely busy and access might be even restricted depending on the dignitaries/royalties attending. If you have set your heart on attending this mass, I would be at least at 10:00 inside the cathedral (or at least queuing at the entrance). Also security will be very high, so make sure you store back packs and even day packs elsewhere and only take the absolutely necessary.

As for getting your Compostela, yes, do it when you come back from Finisterre/Muxia ;-) Use a different credencial for that Camino and just show your 'only to Santiago' credencial at the office - helps to avoid confusion. Buen Camino, SY

Very light, comfortable and compressible poncho. Specially designed for protection against water for any activity.

Our Atmospheric H30 poncho offers lightness and waterproofness. Easily compressible and made with our Waterproof fabric, its heat-sealed interior seams guarantee its waterproofness. Includes carrying bag.

As a Forum member who is currently working until 15 August at the Pilgrim Office, I will be there. Just as an FYI, Sybilla told me today that it is "pot luck" AND BYOB (bring your own bottle, booze, bebida...). We discussed providing an ice bucket or pail large enough for shared use.

I need to scrounge around to see what I can find locally. Need to find bulk ice too...

I hope to see you there... The fireworks REALLY are splendid at midnight on the 24th.

Calma @t2andreo ;-) I can produce the necessary ice in my fridge in advance and I am sure I find a big recipient to keep it in also ;-) Some basic booze (plus non-alcoholic drinks) and a simple dish (most likely vegetarian) will be provided by me also. Vegetarian because the carnivores can eat that also, vice versa it is more complicated ;-)
