A while back there was an announcement that there was to be Camino Race. This caused a flurry of activity as people railed against this sacrilege on our Camino, fury was vente and people posted long and hard saying it should not be allowed to go ahead.

This's announcement was made just before April 1st and even when I highlighted the significance of the date people refused to believe it was a hoax.

My question is this "How many people here know anyone who ran this race?"

Admit it you were suckered,

3rd Edition. More content, training & pack guides avoid common mistakes, bed bugs etc
How many people do you know who ran the Montreal marathon? None? And yet it exists.

And there certainly was a race on the Invierno in April, 8th edition, and a chcling race starts tomorrow on the Madrid en route to Santiago.

Still can't admit that you were an April Fool?

That you were an April fool!
I don't see the big deal about "admitting" anything.

I would be mildly interested in whether you have any evidence of it being an April fool's joke, other than the absence of news about it taking place. Sure, I suppose it could have been, but this is July now.. (i.e., we're over it)

Well, news paper coverage even shows me the winner, photos, and not posted on April Fool's. So I have no idea what you are going on about, nor why, if you were right, this would matter, or even bring you any pleasure.

Oh, wait, they invented these publications for this year's April Fool's.

Did I say it brought me any pleasure?
No, I didn't, it's just your imagination.

However, I would like to point out that the first two links you post show links to a cycle race not a running race. I couldn't be bothered checking the rest.

i'll put you down as being suckered!

Hi Gareth and it is very good to read that you obviously are an optimistic person who loves some humour.
But it is now the 16th of July so the direct link with April 1st is somewhat weak...
When I was the victim of an April Fool's joke I was informed end of the day that I was fooled...just saying.....

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
Hi Sabine,
You've got me sussed.
I've had to wait a while just in case this phantom race was run! However I did point out on April the 1st that it was a hoax and still people believed it.
On a different note, I've heard that the Oxford English dictionary have ommitted the word "gullible" from their 2017 edition.

I don't get the point of your messages in this thread. Are you referring to the "Carrera del Peregrino", ie. "Pilgrims Race"? It was announced around the end of March 2017 and took place in June. It came and went and nobody posted about it on this forum - maybe pilgrims don't notice much of what's going on around them in the region they march through ... but the local Spanish newspapers did so for every of the 6 days and stages this June. Plenty of photos, too. They went to the pilgrim's mass in Santiago but it seems that did not get (did not ask) for a Compostela . Enter Carrera del peregrino into Google News or Google Images for more.
Here they are near Logrono (http://camino.gal/logrono-marca-las-etapas-iniciales-de-la-carrera-del-peregrino/):

I don't consider myself suckered. I've been curious about the outcome of the race but let it go until I noticed your goofy post. Hilarious.

I was one of more than 200 people who signed a petition to protest about the race. It does seem as though it was a phantom race - I can't find any stories about the event, but I don't speak Spanish so search is tricky. Maybe it was a total bust and they're too ashamed to talk about it. My concern was that it would obviously start small and if it took off it would just get bigger - another San Fermin Festival to eventually generate some cash!

Here's a link to the website for the event. The site was up for quite a while before the start of the race and it's still there. If it's a joke it was an elaborate one. There's a phone number down at the bottom of the homepage - maybe you could call the number and talk to a comedian.

Edit: Oh well, there you go - @Katharina's post just popped on while I posted mine.

Well done Kather1na.
Proof that a race was run! Was it the one that was creating all the uproar on this forum?
If it was, it just goes to show how much outrage and hot air was wasted on condemning it as it appears the majority didn't even notice it had been run.

I've read that Socrates genuinely liked the cynics. The word "cynic" is from the Greek for dog. The cynics hounded (get it?) the senators back in the day and kept them honest by constantly annoying and challenging them.

Which majority do you speak about? Us here on an English language forum or those that live in the country? BC SY
By "the majority" I mean those people that ranted and fumed on the forum about a race desecrating "their" Camino. If by "those that live in the country" I would also argue that the overwhelming majority of Spaniards didn't know and didn't care if the race was run.

Now that I have stuck a stick in the wasp's nest and got things humming I am getting on with some painting and decorating so don't expect any further communication from me on this

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.

If "humming" means mildly embarrassed and puzzled and annoyed at wasting a few minutes, then yeah, stucking a stick was a fireball of wit.
