make the best crutches!

How about this!
I return from my 5 week Camino adventure unscathed and whilst on school holidays when caring for the grandies in the beautiful Jamberoo valley, drove to the country store, had to walk 20 metres from the car to store and twisted my ankle in a hole in the car park.

All plans for walking the beautiful south coast of New South Wales abandoned and a quick refresher of the RICE ( Rest Ice Compression and Elevation) led me to a new use for my beloved Pacer Poles.

I love you P1 and P2!

Oh @Tigger from Alabama that's so not good but so easy to do. Luckily you are in the right profession to get the best outcome.

PS Why is it that when I try to @Tigger you it tells me you are from the States when I know you are from Australia?

I am also in an alternate universe here. I am Tigger from Sydney, WAS an interior designer and now a writer!
Seriously? I thought you were a physiotherapist. My memory is crap. :D:D:D But I did remember you were Australian. :p:p:p
Can I tell you the best exercise for a damaged ankle once it has sufficiently healed is to stand on that leg. Standing on one leg will strengthen your ankle and teach it to heal with muscles and tendones and ligaments in the correct position. Or at least that's what my osteopath told me after I broke my ankle last Christmas time.

Thankyou for that advice. I will do that, as my balance is crap normally anyway so needs improvement.

I am no physio, yet having had an Olympian as a husband and two high level sporty netballing daughters, so, I thankfully have a working knowledge of sprained ankles. I have probably strapped my daughters' ankles both preventatively and injured hundreds of times, and it was one of them that said' Mum, you have to walk 'normally' on it!

Ouch! However I am now doing so and walked today 19,000 steps with the aid of my trusty Pacers only a couple of weeks out. It was not a bad sprain though hurt like hell, and the irony of my Camino vs. 20 metres was keen.

All sounds like you know what you are doing and you are healing well. Next level of advice from my osteo is, when you get to the stage when you can stand easily on one leg then roll up a towel and stand on it on one leg.

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.

What a sadist!

Broken arm anyone?

Nah done that on both wrists. Broken arms don't stop walking. In my experience ankles are heaps harder to heal. I'm still working on the one I broke the week before last Christmas even though I've done an 800 km camino frances in the mean time. :);):)

That is so cool!
I did the last 100km from Sarria to SDC in the week 8-15 May after having to leave the original plan of the Via de la Plata due to @Kanga's dire misfortune getting plantar faciitis.

€2,-/day will present your project to thousands of visitors each day. All interested in the Camino de Santiago.
I have Pacer Poles as well. I love them. They have served me well on 2 Caminos and will join me in a third in September. And many hills and trails in between. Fortunately I have not had an injured anything reason to use them but I can only imagine they would be better than crutches in certain situations.

Tks for the advice. I might try that out as an excercise for my hips as well. Picked up a crack in my left knee on the Portuguese last month after giving it a twisting wrench. Might help with that too.

Having claimed no physiotherapy knowledge, I am now proceeding to give you some advice. In prep for my first Camino I went to my physio, uninjured 'as a precaution'. ( A step I recommend to everyone over 40 ) I had a 'dickie knee' and a 'dodgy hip' though unaffecting me at that time. After a full assessment my physio prescribed a series of 5 exercises THAT I ACTUALLY DID FOR SIX WEEKS! The one for the hips was 'clam shells'

There was also a really easy cool one for the knee which relied on multiple repetitions to be effective (basically rolling up a towel and placing it under your knee then leg straightenings. ) Easy peasy. He said do as many reps as you can, to which I replied you mean like the average 30,000 steps on an average Camino day?

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

I have no pacer pole interest. Bypassed post for a bit. Then, methinks Tigger started thread wonder if I'll have a laugh. And, laugh I did.
Only, Tigger can walk a camino sans injury, then need poles for twisted body parts at home.
No buen camino for you T.

…And I’ve just discovered that Yin Yoga (slow easy stretches that work on the fascia) is a great remedy for slow-to-heal tendonitis and ankle stiffness. It’s been 5 weeks since I stopped walking and I still have residual swelling and pain to touch from a ‘maddening’ bout of tendonitis.
As I have access to a gym, I found that a ‘bosu ball’ is also terrific for healing tendonitis (front of ankle-shin) and strengthening the ankle. It’s like a half-ball made of soft rubber. You balance on it on one leg. Lots of fun.

ANOTHER sadist, laughing at the non-bounce of a poor Tigger!
I will admit it was ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS and since the pain has gone I can laugh myself!

For non Australians, I reference P1 andP2 (ie Pacer 1 and Pacer 2) because here we have this absolutely gorgeous series for tiny tots with B1 and B2 ( Banana1 and Banana 2.)
I instead have my Pacer friends!
