Time of past OR future Camino
Portuguese Way September 2017.
French Way May 2018.
Planning some sort of camino for Sep 2019..
Hi all,

I have a question to ask of those experienced in the above route. Am on Portuguese Camino from Porto and get to Santiago tomorrow (hurrah!) My flight back to Dublin is Thursday lunch time and I'm wondering if I'll have time to walk to Finisterre instead of getting the bus?.. Or, is there a smaller route where you'd combine with a bus part of the way maybe?

I stay in. SDC tomorrow night so then have 2 days really before I have to head back to Porto, and like most i guess, I just wanna keep walking!
Any info or ideas welcomed, Thanks, Jacky

Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.
Hi Jacky, two day's walking to Finisterre will be not enough.
I would take the bus and stay the night in Finisterre .
You can walk up to the lighthouse, that would be a nice ending.

Enjoy and congratulations with finishing your Camino. (Almost):)

Wish you well,Peter.

Hi Jacky,
You can walk it in two days if you do stages of about 42 km, leaving Santiago very early morning. I did it once, I was walking on my own and didn't plan it that way, just didn't feel the need to stop...
Last year I walked it in 3 days as we didn't stay the night in Santiago.
Otherwise you could walk to Cee, there are buses from there to Finisterre.

€2,-/day will present your project to thousands of visitors each day. All interested in the Camino de Santiago.
you could also bus to cee and then walk to finisterre. from there its about 12km but its a nice walk. that way you get to spend some time in finisterre and walk to the Faro (its another 3km up nd 3 down :p)

You could take the bus to either Finisterre or Muxia....walk the 30KM from one to the other and get the bus back to Santiago. Muxia is beautiful particularly the area around the church at the edge of the ocean.

Hi Jacky,

Well, I gurss you have your answers, lol, from yes you can to no you cannot. One thing I did not see, and this totally depends on you and maybe having someone to walk with.

I have heard of some who chose to walk through the night. That is all I will say.

Bòidheach DUBLIN!!!

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.

Completely agree! Few days ago (now that my camino is over :( ) I went to both Finisterre and Muxia and really loved Muxia! Next to the cemetery there are white arrows that go up a hill its a lovely hike (or you could walk up on a paved road from the other side of the hill) the view from there is just unbelievable!

All things being equal my recommendation would be walking from Finisterre to Muxcia but things are not equal, the bus service back to Santiago is better from Finisterre.

If I'm not mistaken that was one of our forum members. I can't remember his nick name but haven't seen posts from him for a long time also.
Anyway, it's such a nice walk I would never do that. Smell the roses etc. on 4-days 20k something stages to Muxia is just great.

As to the OP - take the bus if you really want to go to the ocean. Walk Muxia to Fisterra and return the next day to SdC. Or simply wait for another time when you'ćll have enough time to walk it.

Buen Camino!

Hi Jacky, congratulations on getting to Santiago. It's a very enriching and emotional experience. Lap it up you deserve it! By now you're probably a faster walker than when you started! I did go to Finistère by foot and it took me two days. I am a fast walker. I only stayed in Finistère for the afternoon. It depends on how fast a walker you are and your motivations. If you want to soak it all up, then don't walk it you"ll not have enough time. But f you just want to feel satisfied in seeing that wonderful 00 kilometer post then you have the time. If you walk it make sure you get as many stamps as possible if you want the extra certificate. They scrutinize the passport carefully to avoid those cheating ( taking bus) and hoping to get a certificate. The latter is only the reserve of the walker with the appropriate stamps.

I would echo the suggestion that you get the bus to Cee and walk into Finisterre - the final 2 km along the beach with your toes in the ocean is such a treat, and then take in the sunset at the lighthouse in the evening. If you did that on Tuesday you could walk to Muxía on Wednesday and catch the 06:45 bus back to Santiago on Thursday with plenty of time to get to the airport for your flight.

Thanks all!! Lots of food for thought as I spend the night in lovely Santiago :) Still not sure what to do, as in do the 30km or just bus it and earlier flight home.. Half of me is exhausted and just wants to go home, and the other half is shouting 'keep on walking damnit'!
