4 summers on the camino and now one summer with just being home (in bad weather). I was miserable and was longing for those long lonely days. I must go back next summer. Will not have 5 weeks vacation though so a route that will take me approximately 20 days or so (700-800 km then). So now the planning starts, where to go, when to go etc...

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
Hi Beatrice,
I can fully empathise with your feelings. There is just something within us that pushes us to go back. I do not understand it, I just obey it and feel the most freedom I have ever felt in my life (or is it an addiction LOL).

Hi Beatrice
I recall you are happier walker longer days than I could contemplate. So if you can cover 700-800 km in time available ., have you yet walked Chemin Le Puy en Velay? It’s around 730km and approx 32 etapas From Le Puy to Sjpdp.
Enjoy planning wherever it takes you.

Hi, Beatrice,
Good to hear from you again!

Assuming you don't want a repeat, you are looking at caminos like the Mozárabe/Vdlp/Sanabrés or some of the many wonderful solitary routes like the Ebro/Castellano-Aragonés, Lana, or Sureste/Levante. To get into Santiago starting at the Mediterranean, though, would push the total higher than 1000. Is ending in Santiago important to you?

The Olvidado from Bilbao to Ponferrada and then the Invierno from Ponferrada would be a good choice, but that probably doesn't reach your target kms, so you could start back further on the Norte. Same for the Labañiego plus Vadiniense into Mansilla de las Mulas. Have you seen Ray y Rosa's map? It is a great schematic and I think it's the most complete. It's on their website and can be enlarged by clicking. It has a huge watermark across it to prevent printing, but you can see all the options in one place right there. http://www.rayyrosa.com.

One other choice, a route I really liked was the St. Jaume from the French border on the Mediterranean (Llança or Port de la Selva to Montserrat) and then on the Cami Catalá through Huesca and on to the Aragonés. That is one gorgeous route. Again though, you're looking ag way more than 1000 if you want to get all the way into Santiago.

Have fun planning, it's one of my favorite winter activities! Buen camino, Laurie

@BeatriceKarjalainen , hi.

I'm with @OzAnnie about starting at Le Puy.

If you can do 35 to 40 km each day then 20 days walking is achievable. The aspect to note is that gite are more widely spread after Moissac, though there are exceptions.

I have extremely limited French but I gave it a go, and got good responses in return.

And there is the unique sending out after the 07h pilgrim's mass.

Kia kaha (take care, be strong, get going)

I was thinking of that. Or I do another route in Portugal or... oh the options... or I take a short one forces my self to go to all viewpoints, museums etc along the way. But that is not so much me. As you recall I’m happy with long distances and long days, legs so their work, empty mind and camera eye on.

Love your suggestions. Will look them up. Ending in Santiago is kind of the thing, I like the feeling of completion. Ending somewhere else would problably not be the same thing that last day but at the same time it could be a new experience just walk and see where I end up the final walking day then find a way to get home. Haven’t decided yet so open for suggestions :). Planning is almost as fun as walking. Thanks for the map-link lovely. I might ask for some unpaid vacation (just started a new job so I haven’t earned full vacation) to go a full 1000 :)

Ideal pocket guides for during & after your Camino. Each weighs only 1.4 oz (40g)!
Leon to Oviedo on the Camino Salvador, then Oviedo to SdC is possible in 20 days easily.

Beatrice Karjalainen - You have a Finnish name. Puhutteko suomea? Olen englantilainen mutta puhun suomea koska olen ollut tällä Helsingissa monta vuotta!

En ymmärrä, my father is Finnish from Oulu but I have lost all my Finnish, talked as a kid, but have never learnt to read. I only remember the words I learnt on my athers arm when he poined at stuff like flower, mamp and so on.

I did Leon - Oviedo, Oviedeo - SdC in (3+8) 11 days so I know ;-) Not to kean of re doing a camino yet as there are so many to explore and with that short stretch I would have to find something else to do the rest of the time ;-) As reference I did CF: SJPdP-SdC in 23 days, CN: Biarritz-SdC in 24 days, CP: Lisboa-SdC in 16 days.
