Best pilgrim menu in Burgos?

Hello. Im on a budget so mostly cook myself but decided to "splurge" in Burgos(walk there in few days).

Could anyone recommend good pilgrim menu there? It might be my only one so i want it to be good. Or maybe Dias Menu?

The Pilgrim Menu may be less of a treat than you imagine. The Menu del Dia in many places is likely to be a better bet but remember that is, usually, only available between 1 & 3 - 4pm.

In my experience anywhere at least three blocks from the cathedral will be offer a better, and more economic, treat than the touristic places in the centre.

I agree with @Tincatinker . The menu peregrino is rarely a special treat and the menu del dia is usually a far better bet at a similar price. I do think a lot of the negative comments one reads about the bland and predictable nature of the menu peregrino are a little unjust though. My first Camino Frances predated the invention of the menu peregrino. In the early 1990s evening meals were rarely available before 9pm and some places did not even begin serving food until 10pm. Many of the small villages along the Camino Frances had no bars, restaurants or even shops and it was quite possible to walk a 25 or 30km day without finding a single source of food or drink. If you were not lucky enough to encounter a bar or restaurant serving food in the afternoon then you might not eat at all for the rest of the day. The menu peregrino may not always be a gastronomic delight but at least it is normally cheap, filling and calorific and most importantly served at hours far more in tune with the walking pilgrim's day.

I can't answer your question about a pilgrim menu, but I sure had delicious tapas while there.

This is not a peregrino menu or del dia, but we had two of the best hamburgers EVER in Burgos. It was at the Hamburgueseria Isla just to the left of the main gate (Arco de Santa Maria). They were AMAZING!

The Hong Kong on Calle Madrid near the bus station offers a menu del dia for about 10 euros..... in the event that you're hankering after some good old fashioned Spanish Chinese food.

I think you thought it was "the best burger ever" because it had been so long since you'd had one back home. Even if it unknowingly had been ground from fresh "cat/dog/horse" you still may have considered it the "best ever" after all the pilgrim meals and bocadillas you'd been eating!

I recommend skipping the pilgrim meal and menu del día, and instead eating tapas in Burgos.

I can recommend Casa Pancho, Tincatinker - it's an exceptionally good restaurant with delicious food, a great vibe and reasonable prices. I had the good fortune to eat there with a dear friend last June. The staff were so kind to us - they went out of their way to be welcoming and helpful. We also had the treat of talking to the chef once service had finished for the evening and all was a little calmer in the restaurant. It was a fantastic evening and I would go back there in a heartbeat!

PS - thinking about the title of the thread ... we didn't eat the pilgrim menu but ordered from the a la carte menu. For starters we had the local black pudding and a sautéed mushroom dish, then from memory we had lamb cutlets - all so very good. Maxmich - this is the place for that splurge you were promising yourself!

Burgos was our first introduction to "pintxos" ( tapas ) and our first "splurge" meal. Fantastic and such a change from the pilgrim meals we'd been having.

I recommend the Restaurante Rincon De Espana in Burgos. It's near the cathedral and is the restaurant that was in the movie The Way--Toms pack was stolen there. The food is very good and typical of the region. The service is exceptional. The menu of the day or pilgrim menu simply means there is one price for a first, a second,wine or water and dessert is included. I visited one restaurant that had both a pilgrim and a menus of the day.
Another option for very traditional menu is to order the traditional menu of the day in Astorga. This is the sort of backwards menu consisting of 5or 6 courses. You will be served one platter at a time of sliced tomatoes, a yummy chickpeas and greens dish, a platter of tender meats that includes blood sausage, and tender pig parts, the noodle soup comes before the dessert. It is all delicious and I have to say after avoiding all dark sausage the whole trip out of fear of eating blood sausage I ate it unknowingly and found it mild and very good. There are several restaurants that serve this dinner and it is very good at Hotel Gaudi where you will likely be eating with the locals
Enjoy your trip. I am walking my sixed Camino in May and I will be enjoying these places again.

My last pass through Burgos I stopped at the Rincon de Espana because I'm a shameless "The Way" fan (mea culpa) -- but only for a celebratory gintonic at the bar. Enjoyed myself very much, was very well treated, but did not eat there. Above my price range.

If you choose to visit the Rincon do NOT expect it to look, or 'feel', like it did in the movie. Sorry, but it just doesn't! No drama! No crowds of tired mochilla carrying peregrinos, no stealing gitanos....

Yes. I just read another post today (probably posted today too on one of "The Way" threads) that said they underwent renovations. The poster had the opinion that they were no longer looking for pilgrim traffic. That may be good. Going upscale.

OMG, I've been there. I agree with the "best burger ever" rating. I was born in Iowa, and we raised our own beef. The burgers at this place were definitely "mooing" before they graced those buns. We walked by that place 3 times before they finally opened. Would go back to Burgos just to have another...

In Astorga try ¨Cocido Maragato¨ in Casa Maragata, just like 50m from the albergue!!
