I am not using this website currently but still get some emails. Is there a way to deactivate my membership or do I have to block the email sender? I don't really want to block it since I may come back in the future

St James' Way - Self-guided 4-7 day Walking Packages, Reading to Southampton, 110 kms
I am on my phone at the moment so it is harder to check, but yes you can be a member and get no emails. Go to your account/name and look at the settings - preferences, perhaps. Scroll down and you'll see some options for emails
Probably someone will come on soon and tell you exactly.

You'll likely be back sometime so it is nice to feel like a member!

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
You can unsubscribe from the emails, so that you will never ever get a single email.

€2,-/day will present your project to thousands of visitors each day. All interested in the Camino de Santiago.
Captive!? I'm sorry. I misunderstood and thought the emails were the essential problem. Send a message to @ivar and he will delete your account.
Thank you. I may just block the site rather than start a new conversation for something that should be a click away

Be aware that blocking the website on the web browser will not make the e-mails stop. In order to stop receiving e-mails, you need to unsubscribe from the mailing list. If you want to delete your account (still not sure you have an account as you show as guest), just follow the previous advices and email Ivar and ignore the website from there on.
Just to let you know.

And it is, in fact, a few clicks away. Please don't be unfair.

Hi all,

I have just set it up so that anyone can now delete their own account without getting in touch with me.

It can be done here:
https://www.caminodesantiago.me/community/account/account-details
(Look at the bottom left in that menu).

Thanks!
Ivar
I can't see the delete button in my account - have you removed it again. I have encountered behaviour of a rather pontificating and manipulating nature from a member that unfortunately are one of the top posters so seems to have, for completely mysterious reasons, a kind of high standing in here. So how do I get out of here and my account deleted.

Can someone help Jesper? This question was first asked on Feb 1st. Ivar posted that same day that it is possible now to do it without waiting for it to be done by a moderator.

oh dear! I must have made a mistake! I thought it was Jesper who wanted to delete his account. Forgive me Jesper. I need to wear my proper glasses!
Edit:
Covered in confusion... it was jesper and he clearly succeeded. I got confused because I had not noticed that the op was a different person.

Gee, I have joined various fora over the years. I never quit one. I just stop going to those websites. And if I had originally set up my account to receive email notifications I just change my settings.
I do think it's nice that I get a happy birthday email every year from a tiling forum I participated in when I was building a new shower. 😊 It's a nice reminder of the community that encouraged me to do it myself.

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
I personally prefer the "ignore" button. It is the opposite of the 'like' function. You can effective tune a person out. I have not use it yet, as I value all opinions, but it is nice to know it is there.
If you 'ignore' someone, is it discernible by the person being ignored? I wouldn't want to hurt someone's feelings.

And there is always the "ignore" button if somebody has a problem of the postings of one particular member, no need to leave the forum, just hit "ignore" and you never see a posting from that person again ...
If you'd never see a post from that person again and, since each post is numbered, what does that do to the number sequencing in the thread?

I can't see the "delete the account" button either. Did the recent upgrade of the forum remove this option?

Can we get some current clarity on the process for deleting one's own account without having to ask permission to leave?

The new forum app is just great. Thank you for making it. Now I don't need the desktop account anymore because I can access everything from the app without logging in - including the pictures! Great improvement, probably a lot of young people, who have been tired with this old-school desktop version, will enjoy the app!
Thanks again! And please delete my forum account - I don't need it on the phone. It's nice to be your Guest. Peter

P.S. You could have an affiliate booking.com button on the Forum app - people would be happy to book via the app as a thank you for using such a nice app 👍🙏.

You can also access everything on the desktop by using your browser, without logging in. You just cannot post anything or have access to private Conversations without an account.

The app version is just a different appearance/presentation.

If you want your account deleted, you should send a private Conversation to Ivar.

I like to control my own destiny. I’d exercise my own power and delete the link from my PC browser to the forum if I was content to faff about on my phone whenever I wanted to post.

I don’t think I’d delete my account, or request a deletion, unless I had a powerful desire to become an ex-member

Yes, I hope that @Peter Isherwell understands that if he wants to participate, he needs to have an account, and needs to be signed-in, whether on computer or phone. If he just wants to read the forum, he can do that from a browser (on computer or phone) or an app on his phone.

As earlier advised, the way to delete an account is to send a private Conversation to Ivar.

If anyone wants to discuss the forum app, here is a better thread.

The app isn't separate and doesn't replace the forum. It's just another way to get to the forum. You will still need to be a forum member to participate when you are using the app.

You can view the forum via the app as a guest, but you cannot post or reply to threads without a forum account.
