Time of past OR future Camino
Sarria - Santiago 7th September (2017)
Santiago to Fisterra & Muxia August (2018)
Hello to all,

Last year as my small group were all complete newbies to the Camino, we decided to walk the most famous (secure?) bit and walked from Sarria to Santiago. We were various ages and illnesses so we 'glamped' every night and stayed in private rooms. I have to say, this worked a dream, and this year our group has remained intact bar one, and we have gained a definite one, and a possible one. I have most of the accomodation sorted now, and, as it's a mixed spiritual/healing/holiday/respite, we have again broken some of the days into super short ones so that we can swim or surf or cycle the atlantic at 'Worlds End' for leisure once our daily walk is done.

To that end, our itinerary is this;

Ireland - Santiago (evening flight, overnight stay)
1 Santiago - Negreira
2 Negreira - Mazaricos (due to lack of available albergues/hotels online for Olveira - my group likes to know everything is planned/safe/booked!)
3 Mazaricos - Cee
4 Cee to Finisterre (town) - walk to Faro Finisterre and back after check in
5 Finisterre - Lires for an overnight rest/relaxation/swim
6 Lires - Muxia Port
7 Muxia - O Logoso
Bus to Santiago to fly home.

And here I think would be a good time for my group to grap a bus back to Santiago for many reasons - (people want certs/tattoos/rest nights/to avoid that horrible last 2km approach of boring buildings to Santiago/holidays) but I'm having trouble deciphering the buses. I know that this one (http://www.grupoferrin.com/gestion/descargas/docs/Santiago - Bertamirans - Negreira - Muxia.pdf) runs, but I cannot figure out from the website where the stops are, and that's all I can find. As we are thinking of not getting the bus from Muxia and adding an extra days walk we were hoping to pick it up Olveira/O' Logoso/Mazaricos/A Picota area, so if anyone knows of areas near here (and times) for buses back to Santiago I'd be super grateful (we are thinking of ending in Hospital area so you can imagine what horrors a web search comes up with..... not geographical at all in nature!!!)

Thanks in advance to all,

Buen Camino,
T

Oh, and, PS! if anyone know of a decent tattoo artist in the Santiago area we would be very interested to hear (see!) :)

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
Hi, T,
Just a heads up to make sure you know that Olveira is not on the Camino, but Olveiroa is. And Olveiroa has two places that take reservations, As Pias (which is a very nice pensión in an old stone house) and Casa Loncho (which is much more utilitarian and newer).

Wish I could help with the bus info. I bet they only stop in the main places like Negreira, etc. Hospital is really just a crossroads and a factory, so I doubt there wold be a stop there, but I don't know.

buen camino, Laurie

p.s. sorry I don't know anything about tatoo shops either, but I´ll bet some forum members do, since I seem to remember a thread about that!

Looks like a plan. Sorry, I can't help with the buses.

I will post a warning though: a spectacular and powerful maelstrom forms at Lires on both flexes of the tide. There is plenty of safe swimming but do take local advice. Most locals seem to swim from the North shore out beyond the sand-bar.

And as for a bit of inking: Dr Mortiss Tattoo Clinic, Rua San Pedro 62 will oblige.

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

For buses from towns in Galicia back to Santiago perhaps either of these English sites may help.

In Santiago the Galicia Tourist Office, Plaza de Mazarelos,15,
has a useful free multi-language listing of all the current facilities in every village found along the camino to Finisterre and Muxia. This also provides telephone numbers and bus schedules. Their staff is friendly and most helpful.

Hi Talianamexicana, I was in your same situation in June 2017 and I will share how I resolved it since no one who has yet responded mentioned my solution. After having hiked that same exact trip, I have an additional comment on challenging way marking. Really enjoyed the scenic delights of this part of Galicia.

First, I took a bus back to Santiago from the Muxia Camino at Dumbria. I caught the bus at the bus top in Dumbria at 7:30 am and asked the driver how to get to Santiago. He instructed me to get off his bus at a certain bus stop somewhere in a small town in the country toward A Coruna and to wait one hour and to catch a bus with a certain number. I did exactly as he instructed and caught a bus back to SdC that arrived at the main bus station around noonish to early afternoon. I realize that Dumbria is not all the way back to Hospital from Muxia, but it is close and the only place in that general area where I could find a bus back to SdC without duplicating trail that I covered when I earlier walked from SdC to Finisterre.

Also, I wanted to mention that if I had not used the Brierley guide for the Finisterre, Muxia, Sarria and ???, that I would not have been able to find my way from Muxia to Dumbria. The way marking with pedestals and arrows was abysmal and it was very challenging to stay on the trail. I found the solution in reading the narrative directions in the Brierley guide very very carefully and using some tracing of heavily used foot traffic to lighter used surfaces on wilderness paths to find my way. I also found that guidebook essential in finding my way from Finisterre to Lires on a heavy rain day -- again way marking was lacking there.

A personal note: I studied a lot of immersion Spanish at Cuernavaca, Morelos, Mexico, and then a Translation Certificate at San Diego State U as well as two years of Latin in H.S. Given your trail name of ...mexicana, I hope you will appreciate my pointing out that Finisterre in Spanish is closer to 'Lands End' than 'Worlds End' in English.

Buena Suerte y Buen Camino, CT

P.S. - Sorry, avoided the tattoo places in SdC.

And 'Finis Terre' from the Latin translates as 'the end of the earth'. Thats the trouble with languages; they only mean what they say ;);)
Tincatinker, you are absolutely correct. After I sent the message above, I went for my daily walk and during my walk realized my error. My intent was to edit the message on my return to state "earth's end" or "end of the earth." I have just returned and see that you caught my error before I had an opportunity to correct it. Thanks, CT

Thanks Laurie,
I booked As Pias on your recommendation and they couldn't have been nicer, so pleasant even about my terrible broken Spanish! I'm thinking you're right re the buses too so I'm looking into splitting the 33k day from Negreira, particularly because one of our group is post knee replacement op and I hear the climb that long day is quite tough for people with restrictions.

I found the tattoo thread ages ago and can't find it now!

Cheers for all the help :)

Excellent thank you. Do you know of this crowd; http://www.busescostadamorte.com/ ? Not sure if they're reliable, but they seem to do quite a few routes which may be of help to us.
