There are also lots of past trip reports in that thread.
happy walking

according to the last years´ numbers it will be around 20 pilgrims a day on the most popular spots, so we will be few and far between onsome stretches ...

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

Hi , I walked the VDLP starting 13 April 2017.
Loved it .
Was about 15 to 30 pilgrims each day along the way .
Albergues very good quality .
Some days a bit longer of 30k but for me there was not much difference in what to expect on a Camino .
I loved the fact it was a bit quieter along the way .
Great scenery and towns and is very safe for a woman .
Dont over think it too much and just go :)
Like me I am sue you will come back having had a wonderful experience .
I would definitely go again . There were quiet a number of solo women along the way .
Cheers

Hi Talia,

I'm starting the VDLP the week after Easter so I hope to see you along the Way. There is so much helpful information if you just work your way through the blogs and trip reports. Good luck!

Yes - look under VDLP forum and you will see that there are 2 'top level' menus - one on blogs and the other on accommodation. Both are full of really useful information.
Hope to see you on the trail :)

Hi Talia, I will start from Seville with a family friend (female) on 5/17/18. Hope to see you along the way!

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

Talia, sounds like there will be many people on the trail with you. Myself and a friend leave Seville March 28th. Note ….. if you plan on leaving around this time it is the week leading up to Easter accomidation maybe tight? Holy Week in Seville is known as Semana Santa de Sevilla. It is one of the city’s two biggest annual festivals.

Talia, it looks like there will be quite a few of us on the VDLP around the same time. My sister and I are arriving in Seville on March 15. I’ve walked Caminos both alone and with my sister. I’ve enjoyed walking with my sister, but walking alone will always be my most memorable Camino. As a woman of a certain age, it reminded me how capable, competent, and adventurous I was. Maybe we’ll meet...buen Camino.

Hello Talia. I walked the VDLP last year starting from Sevilla on the 30th of April. I loved the experience. Overall the weather was fantastic and not too hot. That said, there were some very rainy days. Starting in April is a good plan because central Spain does get very hot during the summer. I would not worry about walking alone. You will meet people on the way, but it is certainly much less crowded than the Camino Francés. Almost everyone I met was an experieinced pilgrim who had walked caminos before. Overall, I found the albergues to be good to excellent. Be prepared for some long stages (30+kms) without any coffee stops (unlike on the Camino Francés) and no place to fill water bottles. Make sure you carry enough water on these stages. I used a 2 litre bladder and was very happy to have it. While the way is pretty well marked, I did find myself refering to a GPS track on my iPhone quite often. The Gerald Kelly book is very good. I had that as an ebook on my iPhone. I also used the VdlP Wise Pilgrim iPhone app and the Via de la Plata PREMIUM iPhone app (Antonio Villena). Both of these were also helpful for finding accomodation. I also carried the VdlP hard copy Rother Wanderführer guide book in German which was excellent. When you buy this book you get GPS tracks that you can load in your phone or GPS device. What I found fascinating is that much of the time you will be walking on old Roman roads. As I walked, I often thought about all the people who had travelled on this way for 2,000 years. I took a rest day in Merida, Salamanca, and Ourense and recommend doing this to everyone if you have the time. Such beautiful cities with so much to see and do. Soaking in the thermal baths in Ourense was heaven on earth after walking so many kilometres. I wish you a wonderful VdlP camino experience!!

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
Totally concur with pitztop -I loved the VDLP.
My account is on “ensuitepilgrimblog.wordpress.com.”
Just scroll thru the Archives.
Did it in 3 stages :-
Seville to Caceres
Caceres to Zamora
Zamora to S de C via the Sanabres.

Hi there, I found that guidebook to be lacking in many ways. Ended up downloading a couple of excellent apps....Via de la Plata (premium or basic) and Sanabres (premium or basic). Also followed blogs of a guy walking a few days ahead. You can read my blog on my website if that helps margaretcaffyn.com.au
Just one thing people haven’t mentioned is that it is nothing like the Frances and you need to be mindful of food and water. Very few cafes if any, in between major stops. You will love it. Quite rugged and very few people

Hi
I will be arriving Seville on Monday April 2nd from Northumberland UK hoping to start walking Tuesday or Wednesday. I chose this date in the hope of starting before the heat but after the winter wind rain and swollen streams have subsided. Also I read somewhere that at this time it's a walk from spring through to summer in the cooler north with displays of wild flowers. Haven't decided on where to stay in Seville yet although flights are booked.

I walked from Seville in April/May 2017. It’s a good time to walk. Be aware of Holy Week crowds especially in Seville. Many other threads here about that. Some days were hot, some were rainy, some a bit chilly in the morning, and some PERFECT days. I think it was day 10 before I walked with the same person all day. Most was solitary walking (which was fine for me). Occasionally walk with others for a period of time or just cross paths. But there was typically a group of 10-20 people at the albergue, but you might not see them walking during the day. Only in albergue alone twice (?). Volume picked up a little closer to Santiago. For you Facebookers, I posted (after the fact) my day by day journal with pictures. Search for Steve Hall in Kansas City – that should find me. You'll see the end of the journey first. Just scroll down a little on the time line. Go further down to watch chronologically. It’s posted as Public so you don’t need to send a friend request. Good luck.

Hello Talia
I am planning to walk from Cadiz to A Coruna via the Via del Plata and Santiago (coast to coast) starting late May this year, so will probably not meet up, but have purchased Gerald Kelly's book on Amazon here:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/1533170541/?tag=casaivar02-20

It (a reduced content version minus maps) is also available for free download in PDF form here:
http://www.caminoguide.net/pages/download

To view PDF's on an iPhone (I have one also), I am using Dropbox to upload the file and use the Dropbox iPhone app to view.

Hope all goes well and buen camino !!

Talia:

Starting VLDP on 16 April from Sevilla. Perhaps I'll see you and others on the Camino.

Farie de Sevilla, a large, 7-day festival begins 15 April. It looks like fun! YouTube videos showed most Women dressed in Flamenco attire, looks like a 7-day Carnival & Party!

Bien Camino,

Greg

Hi Talia, I am planning on walking the Via de la Plata this March. Probably leaving Texas mid March. When are you leaving?

1. What was/is the furthest distance between water points? be it fountain, bar, cafe, etc.
I will be biking VDLP mid April this year.
Will have two water bottles and a 3L bag.

2. Any good places to put a small tent or hammock? i.e. out back of A/burg or stealth camping? NO fires, lights, cooking, etc. Have done it on the Frances and on the Portuguese.

HI
