hi does anyone know how or what is the best free way I can record my travel on phone and save to print later?
One easy way is to write/post yourself a daily email and attach photos. When at home copy/edit those emails and put them into a more formal blog.

Happy planning and Buen camino!

If you are an Android phone user with a Google account, a very simple solution is to use Google Documents - like a simple Word programme. You can save documents to your phone, email them as attachments, or save them to the cloud on Google Drive. You can also dictate to Documents rather than trying to type on screen (just don't do it in the dormitory when folk are trying to rest!) ;)

Hi Heather,

I have been a Mac Chick forever and the most basic is Notes. Save it all in one easy spot to process later. Another way is to carry one of the small digital voice recorders. They can go for days on a single AAA battery, then, you can transfer into an MP3 as an audio book and / or use a speech to text app to create a printable form. For this, I use OmmWriter.

Hope this helps.

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.

Thanks for this idea. I just tried it and it seems to work really well.

Good morning. I have used the app Traveller. Excellent ..available free from the App Store. Cheers Jo

A selection of Camino Jewellery
I've been experimenting with Esplor.io and Day One, with Hootsuite to push updates to Facebook (so that I don't have to have the Facebook app on my phone). They're all good at different things. Esplor.io is good at matching locations to photographs and mapping a route taken on a trip. Day One is better as a private journal, and Hootsuite allows me to share my updates at a time when family and friends are more likely to see them.

I have recently used the Polarsteps app which has map tracking as well as ability to pin photos to locations. It also provides an area to write a journal each day or leg. My daughter recently used it on a trek to Everest base camp and it was great for us at home to see where and what she was up to. Works off-line - you can log photos and notes and then just upload once you have wi-fi. Once the journey is complete you can. also turn it into a coffee table book. I will be using it on my Camino in May

Have you found the MayMyWalk to deplete your battery really quickly? I agree about the typing on a phone keyboard ;)

on further investigation, MapMyWalk isn't what I want - irrespective of the battery issue.

All the apps, including MapMyWalk, I have looked at need to have the pics manually added to the app record - time consuming and fiddly...

I want an app that will take over the camera and the GPS so that, when i fire up the app, I can take the photo through it and the app will automatically geotag and date the pic and put it in its geographical/chronological context for review later.

Any suggestions?

I use a site/app called findpenguins.com
I can upload pictures, journal, and share it with my friends and family. It automatically maps your location too.

I liked this app a bunch. And when I got home I had a book printed which is now a permanent keepsake of my first Camino. Forced one to be more a poet than writer as the number of characters with the free version was limited. Here is the cover of my book.

My daughter has a book made for me from my findpenguins blog and gave it to me for my birthday. :)

hi does anyone know how or what is the best free way I can record my travel on phone and save to print later?
I have been trying out a great e-journal that has an app for your smartphone. It is Esplorio. It allows you to post photos, write text alongside the photos and keep written journal notes on a daily basis. The app also shows your travel on a map by a red line. The map also indicates where each of your photos was taken along your route. You can share the link with friends and family who can follow your journey.
I plan to use the app when I start in April. I can’t think of anything that it does not offer. (The power drain on your phone is minimal, really)

The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.
I have found that with an Apple phone 6s or later, one can dictateinto Notes while in airplane mode. Saves a lot of battery time.

Esplorio looks great, but unfortunately it's not available for Android phones. :(
