Camino...

Which also happens to coinside with my want to go to Santiago....journey..

You see...
I shoot surfers
One of the few here in town
Surftographer

While Nazare..has

HUUUGE Waves
Some of the biggest in the world
Sone of the biggest names go and slide there..

Soze...here is the issue..
I had planned to walk east ish..to west ish
No too much north ish..as its all uphill
Nor

Then its all uphill again..
I digress...

So now..my timeline has shifted
This time of year the waves and surfers meet there

A man has a camera
A man has travels

A man has dilemma...

Now a certain photographer\poet\wanderer-r... has plans to get to finisterre..and turn left
Its gonna be a loooong walk i think.

St James' Way - Self-guided 4-7 day Walking Packages, Reading to Southampton, 110 kms
Well..thats another worm..")
A workmate overheard me talking about some breaks in the islands and offered me a place to crash for a couple of nites..
So hopefully on one of the comps later this year ill be able to partake of such courtesies!
I will be eating LOOOTS of ramen while there..and may try the Poke'

Ramen, poke, and shave ice? Yum. Local-kine grinds.
It's a looooong ways from the camino, but there's good walking to be had up mauka, especially if you're on Maui. But even O'ahu has some very nice mountain walks. Feel free to PM me if you want some ideas.

My muse has wanderlust...baad...

French Polynesia has Teahupo'o..
Big heavy..dangerous waves
A short hop from the islands.

The Camino will be done..good Lord! So much to see and do in my second half!!!that impatience is set in and ime in a fever to be "out there" not here..the draw toward Santiago is stronger and deeper than any longing..
Something is there and like gravitational forces is pulling incessantly...

Missing- has many symptoms
Synonyms and synonomous attitudes

Hence Nazare..two roads traveled..one journey.

Hawaii will be purely ..what?
It will nourish and enrich my spirit..my anima..or is it just a sense of adventure..something purely selfish and vicarious that thrills the center.

The Way..i wonder as you said..if this isnt a continuation of Ways?

I think i will choose to think so

Go ahead be selfish
You deserve to be vicarious
We will as we will live vicariously thru you and bask in your afterglow
As you share your animus exuberance with us
We will ride the waves in our thoughts

Most people live like worker bees in a hive.
Obviously you don't, William.
There are lots of ways to the heart's sweet centre.
Go!
Why not...

Order an Uber Whale,
Borrow a board
Keep the land on your right
And Fisterre
Is where you will be.
No hills
Maybe some waves
Who know who
Might be surfing out there?

One of my surfer buddies said he would shape me a 10 footer or so..full on grom size for a burly fellow...
Its the pop up i would have trouble with that keeps me in the kiddie waves..getting an underwater housing this year and a few rash guard shirts to keep the Portuguese Man o War from smoking me..
see?
There is already a connection !! Seriously though..ive driven home in a poisoned state..kinda like drinking a whole bottle of wine..with a whole can of redbull..and cotton mouth...fun

Ill be going to Europe first..the call is strongest..i really want to see the waves at Nazare..little mountains they are..

My walk will be hindered by many kilos of gear...long glass and big body kit..
Maybe ill just take some of my summer swim gear!
Ime taking the wholistic approach
Take the whole thing....
Lol kidding.

VN.
ime that one bee who will sit and wonder about whats over there...
Ive always been the type a who works best and hardest when ime challenging myself..ohh ive been known to out work others on occasion..my latest is 75 plus hour
weeks to make it all happen...
But as for being a drone..my stripes seem to be racing stripes....
I was up from 4 legs to two before 9 months and have never stopped going it seems

I just discovered some YouTube videos of Nazare! Did you see those heaving ocean-avalanches in person? I couldn't believe it when I saw it...especially in Portugal! I know France has Biarritz but I've never heard of this one, I guess to keep out the stereotypical California weekend longboarders like me.;) it looks like it breaks so close to shore, is that just a fancy camera lense? It has captivated me, I have to see it in person...thanks for sharing your dilemma, and let me know if you want to trade pics of Santiago for Nazare!o_O

I shoot surf here in South Texas...our shore breaks fron storms get up to round 3 meters or so ..ive shot sets around Novembers storms that were round 2.50 to 3.m

I found out about Nazare from a few surfers that i talked with between sessions..my first big waves were going to be Marvericks..until i found that they really dont need amature's like me..too far away and not enough good glass...

Small mountains they are!!

Getting to the North Shore will cost about as much as the whole Pilgrimage would cost in airfare..sigh..so not this year
Nazare is close enough to reach from Santiago that a bus ride is doable...
Its on the agenda and hopefully i can coincide the dates to arrive when the masters are there
This years was Feb 8th ish so it may be a late winter camino..what will happen is i will be there when i get there.

All there is to do is the saving up for 2 things..a new camera body and the cost of the trip...

This was the smaller of 3 days in Nov..big for us.

William, and @NovaSofi , you saw thisright?
Gerard's story is capped with an embedded YouTube clip of the Nazare break.
Not much to say other than .
You go, William! But do take care. Those are the sort of waves that take people apart.
I missed it, thanks!

Nice wave you've got there in TX! I agree with not wasting time at Maverick's, its too far from shore. I've always wanted to go to Pipe but Nazare tops it for me, especially if you can throw in a winter Camino to boot! I think you've really touched on an interesting topic... "a Camino surf trip"! :pI hope you are blessed to experience one or both. Can't loose either way! Thanks for sharing!

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

New Original Camino Gear Designed Especially with The Modern Peregrino In Mind!
Not yet..but..that new visa thingy for europe has me thinking next year if my knee doesnt explode...
Which means a late fall or early spring walk...i prefer the seasonal drama of fall.
By then i hope to experiencw the Joy of FINALLY walking the Camino.
Meanwhile ive been shooting our little chocolate waves
What will happen is really going to be a life change event. I work as a contract laborer and to leave for a month or so means basically ime quitting my job with no guarantee of it being available,in the same position-at the same pay.
I my be able to work here again but never regain my position.
I am retired medically at 50 and a high injury risk...so much so that most good paying adult wage jobs wont hire someone with a back like mine.
I look for no sympathy
But starting over sucked the nth time and its harder for a 50 yr old to do so.
Life changing indeed
