Time of past OR future Camino
I plan on doing the Portuguese coastal way in april 2018
Is there a google map app which can be used to monitor a pilgrim's location along the Portuguese Camino? Does the App also provide information (lodging, cafes, etc)?

A selection of Camino Jewellery
Both Wise Pilgrim and my app (TrailSmart) will track your progress, provide descriptions, list lodgings, and so on. If you don't need offline maps, then TrailSmart is completely free (no advertising, fully functional, all content included). There may be other apps as well. TrailSmart is available for both iOS and Android. I think Wise Pilgrim has versions for both platforms too.

Yes, the Wise Pilgrim app provides wonderful information about the area where you are, the distance to the next stop - I had to pay for it, but seems totally worth it.

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
Thank you all for the informative advice.

FYI, I am days away from releasing a new series of apps which offer easy offline maps and online booking. It is part of the larger rewrite of the full content Wise Pilgrim apps.
when will it be released? I'm starting my hike 19 April, would like to download this.

That is excellent news, Wise Pilgrim. I bought all your apps in the bundle package. Will this be available to me in an update, of the existing wise pilgrim apps, or will it be a separate purchase?

I am making the final adjustments to the iOS version of the Francés app tonight, after which Apple needs to approve it... a process that takes anywhere from a day to a week. The android version will be finalized tomorrow and will probably be available tomorrow as well since Google does not review apps.

Subsequent to that I will release a version for the Norte, Primitivo and Portugués routes. If I still have the energy after that I will do the San Salvador, Invierno, and Finisterra/Muxia routes.

Bundles for Apple are tricky. Once you make a bundle you cannot add apps to it, so I´m afraid that that is not an option. However all is not lost. I will be making a bundle for these new apps which comprise the new app and the old app of the same route. This means that everyone who has already purchased the original Francés app can 'complete the bundle' for free. Though I have not settled on a price just yet, it will be closer to the .99 side of the spectrum.

3rd Edition. More content, training & pack guides avoid common mistakes, bed bugs etc
Just a followup. The android version of the Francés app should be available now. I would appreciate any feedback you have. Android has been a very complicated endeavor due to the sheer number of devices to consider, and they are generally underpowered compared to iOS. Owners of the more expensive range of Android devices will invariably have a better experience.

The iOS version is still pending with Apple and their endless review process. Norte up next!

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.

I just looked at your app in the Google Play store, and the latest update isn't mentioned there in the notes/description.

Are we getting the albergue comments back on the iPhone? Those are tremendously helpful.

Very interesting. Don't know much about these camino app's. Is there a place where one can read more about a given version before you purchase?

€2,-/day will present your project to thousands of visitors each day. All interested in the Camino de Santiago.
Here is a link to the new app:

Those still exist in the original versions of the apps.

Attached are screenshots of the two versions. The top image is from my iPhone X and the bottom is from my iPad Pro. On the iPhone, there is nothing below the Open On Map link. As you can see, on the iPad, all the comments show up after Open On Map. This issue was the same on my iPhone 6+. When I walked in 2015, the comments showed up on my iPhone 6+, but somewhere along the line they were lost. I've tried deleting and reinstalling the app to no avail.

Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.
Not on my iPhone. They show up on my iPad, but not the iPhone.
The other issue I'm having is that I have to open the app multiple times before it stays open and doesn't immediately crash. This happens on both the iPhone and iPad. I'm hoping that issue is resolved with the new version. I just again tried deleting the app on my iPhone and reinstalling it to see if the comments came back. They did not.

Are the Comments turned on in the settings?

So, I'll have to pay again if I had purchased the original? And are lodging reviews included in the new app for android? That was the most valuable part of the Wise Pilgrim app for me last year.

Just to be clear, this is a different app with different features, namely the offline maps. It is $.99. The original app is still available and will eventually be updated to also include the offline maps... but that is a complete re-code of the app and won’t be done overnight. And if you are on iOS it is a moot point since I am able to bundle the two together at the same price.

Why two different apps? Different strokes for different folks.

Probably too late to reply to this posts as I’m sure you already have the answers you require but I’ll say it anyway. I’m currently on the CP in Caminha. We started from Lisbon 3 weeks ago with both the Trail Smart and Wise Pilgrim apps. Both have been invaluable. Because we often start walking before sunrise it’s not always easy to see the arrows: The Trail Smart offline maps have saved us on many occasions. Likewise the elevation maps and heaps of other info regarding accomodation, cafes etc on Wise Pilgrim has been highly accurate.
Cheers, Julian...

I am in the process of creating an app for the Camino and incorporating modern designs, more sophisticated user experiences, and more features. I'm a fellow pilgrim as well as an experienced Silicon Valley software engineer (former Facebook, Airbnb, startups engineer) and very passionate about the Camino.

This process first starts with the users, so I'm reaching out to the community to provide their ideas and feedback. If you'd like to participate, please fill out this survey. I'm also doing user feedback sessions for some prototypes and mockups I have done, if you'd like to chat about that let me know! I've gotten good feedback so far and am looking to improve!

I'll be buying the iOS version once it's available.

I just bought the Wise Pilgrim app (iOS) for the Camino Primitivo and I'm trying to find out the best way to use it. Can you highlight any of the text? Can you save/bookmark accommodation/restaurant options for easy access later? Thanks.

Hi,

We leave from Porto on 4/26. Is this update available? Thanks so much

I certainly hope so. The Norte and the Francés are available now, and the Primitivo will be done today. The Portugués poses a bit of a challenge in that the maps are much bigger than the other routes because of the lenght of the Coastal and Central options which are both included. I would like to wrap it up this weekend and leave it to Apple for approval.

I currently see the Norte update on the App Store, but not the Francés. No matter to me as I'm awaiting the Portugués as well. I'm very excited for this option as I only carry an Wifi enabled IPad and not a smartphone. I'm a flip phone kind of guy. Thank you for the updates.

Generally it is easiest to just search your app store for Wise Pilgrim, they should all appear there. Portugués and Primitivo will be online within days.

Also for the iOS users out there, if you have previousely purchased the original version of the app remember that this one is free with Apples "Complete My Bundle" option.

I just bought the Primitivo app for iOS this week (not realising an update was coming). Does your last line above mean that I will not receive the updated version?

Down bag (90/10 duvet) of 700 fills with 180 g (6.34 ounces) of filling. Mummy-shaped structure, ideal when you are looking for lightness with great heating performance.

You will receive it. But you will probably have to wait one day longer since I cannot bundle the two together until both are approved and the bundle itself also needs a day to be approved. So just check back later this week and when you are viewing the new version you should see an option to complete the bundle.

The bundle is priced at the same price as the full app, allowing you to go from the 'Wisely' version to the 'Original' version without buying both.

I installed the new iOS app for the Francés a couple of days ago via the free bundle. The process was easy and on a fast connection took a less than 3 minutes to install the app and download the maps. Much easier and less space than using Maps.me for a path (granted it's a different animal but this is perfect for me). Thank you very much for making this new functionality available!
¡Buen Camino!

On the iPhone X using the latest software Wise Pilgram crashes at start up. It will eventually start but it might take 6 or 7 tries. Once running it’s awesome!

I'm currently on the camino Invierno, using your app with offline map. I really enjoyed it but today it doesn't track my position on the map (which it did yesterday). Strange since location is on for the app and works for all other apps (incl the wise pilgrim app, Google maps etc). Any ideas how to get it back on?

Well, it started working again (gps location) so I just didn't close the app for the remainder of the walk. But when I turn on the app now again after closing it a few days ago, no GPS signal on map? Guess it's a bug that can be fixed. Otherwise a wonderful app!!

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.
