Am I Correct.......

Time of past OR future Camino
Frances Aug(2013), Portuguese (2018) Le Puy (2019)
My husband and I are walking the Portuguese starting in about ten days. We will arrive in Santiago on Saturday the 12th of May. Am I correct in thinking there will still be lots of scaffolding and no chance of seeing the botafumeiro swing over the next 2 days? It was the most moving, spiritual part of our Camino Frances in 2013!

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

There is still scaffolding inside and outside, but it does not affect the swinging of the botafumeiro. That depends if someone pays for it.

The renovation work is continuous, ongoing, and the scaffolding locations move as the work progresses.

The best way of knowing is to post a question asking for pilgrims arriving at Santiago to provide a ‘snapshot’ report as of that date.

For example, I hope to arrive, from the Camiño Invierno, this coming Sunday, 22 April.

If you post a question, I will be happy to provide my on site report to that thread.

Just as an FYI, I would likely plan to make the 6:00 pm Mass as I have to cover some 33 km that, my final day.

Hope this helps.

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
I attended Friday 7:30pm and Saturday noon mass last weekend and yes scafolding is still up but much less vs 2017 and the butafumeiro was done at both masses I attended neither of which were overly packed so I’m not so convinced that they only do it if a tour group pays.

Yes, Tom is a wealth of knowledge, not just Camino related, but on many subjects. He and I met last month in Florida for lunch when I was visiting my sister in law, who lives nearby.
