Hello!

The Pacific Crest Trail is a wilderness hike from Mexico to Canada in the United States. I carry a tent, food, and am self-sufficient - except for water caches in the desert.

While it isn’t *exactly* a pilgrimage, it is definitely a challenging, reflective journey.

I am currently 23 days in at Mile #342 and the trail is 2650 miles long!

If you are interested in following me as I hike through the mountains, and experience trail culture - check out my YouTube Channel.

I am also happy to answer any questions about the Pacific Crest Trail in my video comments, or on this forum. I don’t always have cell service - but I will eventually respond!

My trail name is ‘Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego’ or just ‘Carmen Sandiego’ for short. Some people call me ‘Camino de Santiago’ and I’m okay with that too!!
(Hikers don’t use their real names on the PCT)

Cheers,
Sara

Hi, i've been following your travels. I'm going to catch up with the PCT soon.
Are you walking all 2650 miles?

Why not real name
Have a super journey!

Thanks!

On the American long-distance trails it has been a tradition and part of the the hiker culture. It helps people locate each other and and it is easier to remember than real names. Right now I am hiking with people with names like ‘Squish’, ‘Patch’, and ‘Fireman’. :)

A selection of Camino Jewellery
You got an early start for your thru-hike!! I started in mid-April, and still ran into significant snow when I hit the Sierra past Kennedy Meadows on May 24th. I had my micro-spikes and ice axe waiting for me in my resupply box, and they came in handy :)

Hi Sara, I just started following your YouTube, amazing stuff! Thanks for sharing your PCT journey. It is my dream to walk PCT one day(if I could get a long leave from work). I did some reading and it seems the preparation is hell of a job. Gear selection, food, organising drop boxes. I would like to know how you did your prep work and what important things to consider prior walking the PCT. many thanks! Buen camino!!!

Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.

It is a low snow year so far. I plan on buying a bear canister, spikes and ice axe when I get to the Sierra. I also like that I have lots of time to enjoy Trail culture along the way :)

I’ve walked over half of the Appalachian Trail so I’ve already had some experience with America thruhikkng. I don’t have any drop boxes right now for the desert portion. I will figure out my Northern Cali, Oregon and Washington boxes as I get closer. I’ll know what kind of food I like best by that point.

I'm right behind you trying to catch up.
Actually I'm rather a long behind you I'm on day eight of the Via de la Plata.
You've inspired me to have a look at the PCT. I need to see how I get on with the Via de la Plata first.

Woot woot!!! Enjoy the Via De La Plata!
I really miss the tasty pork and great Spanish wine! :)

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.

It's a low snow year overall for California, but not much below averages for the High Sierra. When I thru-hiked the PCT, the snowpack averages were less than this year. Just be careful, especially with the stream crossings. :)

Sara, what do you estimate your time will be to reach Snoqualmie Pass or Stevens Pass in Washington State? If I am available, maybe you can ship your resupply to my address and I can get it to you on both passes. Depending on your pace, Snoqualmie to Stevens is a 5- 7 day hike. A supply drop at Snoqualmie and then again at Stevens.

Do they have the marijuana culture on the PCT like on the AT?
A good friend of mine completely thru-hiked the AT 2-3 years ago and he said he never saw so much dope smoking in his life, which he admitted to partaking in himself. He said it had a nickname, "green blazing", lol.

Well, all of the states that the trail goes through - California, Oregon and Washington all have legal recreational marijuana...
;)

Hi Davebugg!!!
I hope to be in Washington in August. I can definitely stay in touch and let you know as I get closer. That would be awesome!

Marijuana is legal in all three states of California, Oregon, and Washington. There are some hikers that partake on a regular daily basis. Most hikers I meet only partake in camp at the end of night as an occasional ‘medicinal aid’ for sore muscles and to help with sleep.

Sounds good. I leave for Spain on September 16, but it is most likely that you will be in North Central Washington before then; especially if you are going to get to the Canadian border before the snow hits the North Cascades.

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

I would like to be finished the trail before September to avoid the snow. :)

You should be just fine, then. How many miles per day are you averaging now? I do enjoy your PCT YouTubes; brings back some memories :)

I’m in Lake Isabella now. I am doing around 23 miles a day on trail - but then taking lots of time off in town.

€2,-/day will present your project to thousands of visitors each day. All interested in the Camino de Santiago.
Been moving slower along the trail then I thought I would - and crossing into Washington state today. The vortex pull of the amazing trail towns and craft breweries was too strong!

I am hearing then Camino calling also... more adventures getting lined up for after finishing the PCT!
