Sorry that no one answered this earlier, since I think you're starting tomorrow! Liz Brandt's guide (available in the resources) gives directions for how to get back to the Primitivo.

Directions to rejoin the Primitivo from the Naranco sites w/o backtracking:
From the grass field North of San Miguel de Lillo (the church at the top) (the North side is the steep uphill side) starts a path upwards in NW direction. . The path is washed out and leaves from the end of the field nearest the road. After about 200 meters it joins an asphalted road, which runs parallel to the Oviedo Sports Grounds (on your left). You'll pass its entrance and carry on straight down the main road for about 1km until this turns sharp left. There is a bus shelter/stop. Turn right and cross the village Ules (there is a bar here) in the direction of El Llano, and straight on until Lampaya. About 300 meters after the few Lampaya houses there descends a track to the left. If you miss it, carry on and turn left when at a T- junction and you'll eventually come out at the same spot as the track. Follow the road until a little chapel on your right. This is Llampaxuga where the two paths meet. You should have joined the official Camino towards Loriana and follow the yellow arrows.

Thank you nick. I've had an amazing few hours so far in oviedo, except for twisting my ankle. Hopefully it will be good to go in the morning. Otherwise, maybe delayed by a day..... 20180521_221732.jpg20180522_013626.jpg20180522_003449.jpg20180522_003050.jpg20180522_001712.jpg

Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.
Sorry to hear about your ankle but great to see you’re enjoying yourself all the same. We arrive in Oviedo on Thursday so if you’re really delayed we might run into you after all.

With Kaje's OK, I've started a new "live from the Camino" thread for him. Hope the next days are as good as the first in Oviedo, minus the ankle twist of course. Looking forward to following allong and wishing you a buen camino! Laurie

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
Thank you so much Laurie. Wifi has not been at its best so far on the primitivo.
Day 1 - ankle was not perfect, so did a cheat and took a cab upto naranco ;) what an amazing place. Walked the connecting path via Lampaya on to Escamplero. Weathe was good. There were only 4 of us pilgrims in the albergue. Had a lot of cerveza and enjoyed the sunset.

Great pictures, Kaje. Did you find the link between Naranco and the Camino easy to navigate? I have been to the Naranco sites many times, but have never continued walking from them to the Camino. It's on my to-do list, especially if it's well marked.

Sounds like a great start to your camino Primitivo. Buen camino, Laurie

Hi Laurie. Thank you for the kind support as always. The path from naranco leads you upto the sports centre. Then you follow the road down to Ules, and turn right. After some time, you end up in Lampaya. Gp straight thru, and you will finally come upon the start of the camino at a small church with a water fountain below. I was really happy that so many people helped guide me along the way, considering my Spanish was limited to "por favor, camino santiago?" :)

Day 2 - Escamplero to cabrunana.
Started off at 7.20 am. Not a difficult walk until after grado....uphill all the way, with the sun beating down on our heads. Cabrunana has a wonderful albergue with 16 beds approx 50m away from the bar. Evidently, this was part of the original way, but has now become very quiet as the primitivo has been altered. Bar serves amazing dinner.

Day 3 - Cabrunana to salas
Started off at 7.20 am. Lots of mist.....as it rained the night before. The countryside changes from being pristine and lonely. A fair bit more industry is noticeable. We took the highway into salas, feet were not in a good way.....There is a good modern albergue here, across from the church.

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
For those who arrive in salas early and don’t mind walking an extra 8kms. I would highly recommend Albergue bodeyana. A fabulous donativo run by David and Celia. They greet you on your arrival, offer you drinks while signing in. They cook you dinner and breakfast. Washes and dries your cloth for you. And they love to chat and laugh a lot. No doubt was my best albergue exprience.

Day 4 - salas to tineo
The weather changed for the worse today. Salas to bodenaya is a nice albeit uphill walk. Ended up being wet to the bone. The sun must be away south, for it did not peak out at us once. There is a nice albergue in tineo which is attached to a hotel - palacios meras. Menu del dia served until 4pm.

We heard that the albergue in Bodenaya was closed today but we don’t know why. We’re trying to call to reserve for tomorrow if it’s open but we can’t get through for now.

Day 5 - tineo to Cornellana
When it rains, it pours. Everyone was drenched. 2 days of rain, wet backpack, fewer miles = frutration. Stayed at casa ricardo. Good albergue with a bar across the street. The sun came out at 6.30 pm ;)
