Hi, I'm starting the Camino del Baztan next weekend (Bayonne to Pamplona) and was hoping to stay in Amaiur. Some research tells me that the municipal hostel in Amaiur is closed. One says temporarily. Others don't mention this at all. Has anyone got any recent information about it. Maybe a good cheap alternative if it is closed. Thanks.

Buen Camino, @kayagee66!

It looks as though that albergue is closed - I think it's been closed for a few years.

We stayed in Goiz Argi in Amaia. You can email the owner (Maite) at info@goizargile.com. Her phone number is +34 948 454 234. She has very comfortable rooms and a little kitchen with cooking equipment and a washing machine for guests.

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.

Thanks, it does look very nice, but a bit expensive as I'm walking alone.
I think I try http://www.baztanetxeberria.com/index.php/es-pension in Arizkun, do you know it? The accommodation is above a bar/restaurant, 1 person €28 sounds ok.
4.5km further, but that's 4.5 less the next day. And as it's supposed to rain every day the whole route (seems to have been raining a lot recently) I will be glad of bar/restaurant I think.

Actually I've just seen on Gronze that Goiz Argi could be a better price than I thought. I'll see how it goes. Thanks.

Hi, kayagee66, I was with the others in the really nice casa rural in Amaiur last year. I don't remember the price, but based on my experience on the Mozarabe this year, it is very common for private places on camino routes to have a separate "pilgrim price" that is substantially lower than their going rate. This is also true since you will not be walking in high tourist season, and owners may decide that less money is better than no money and an empty casa rural. You could email the owner of Goiz Argi and see what she says.

Buen camino, I'm sure you will love it!

Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.

I read about your walk here on the forum. It's been very helpful. Considering the amount of people that go through Bayonne on their way, surprisingly few seem to walk the camino del Baztan.
