Overview of Lisbon upon arrival from airport

We are flying in to Lisbon with the idea of spending a day seeing the city by perhaps a tour bus that stops at sights of interest giving us an overview before we spend the night there and move on to Tomar the next day. Any suggestions on how best to do this and what transportation to Tomar- bus or train? The beginning of our Camino will begin in Porto after seeing Tomar.

Lisbon is a terrific city. It is also a hilly city, which makes it a great place to start warming up those legs for walking. Years ago, when I lived in Lisbon for an academic year I put together a “walking tour” for friends who came to visit while I was working. Since then I have posted it on the forum, and I think it gives takes you through the main central Lisbon sights. This doesn’t include the Tile Museum (which you pass on the caminho out of Lisbon), or the Parque das Naçoes, which is also on the Caminho. Nor does it include Belém, where the monastery and the coach museum are, as well as the Torre de Belém and the monument to the discoverers. BUT... for a day’s intro to Lisbon, I think it’s a pretty good start.
 
The train is a good way to get to Tomar. Inexpensive and has a good schedule. I recall it being about 3 hours. One way to find the schedule is the website rome2rio. I remember walking to the station from my hostel, I think Hello Hostel, in Lisbon.

Or get a "tuk tux " for those hilly parts.
