New record number of Compostelas on a single day this year?

Looking at the pilgrim office website just now I see that they issued 2,949 Compostelas yesterday (Friday 27 July). I remember a small press article last August when a new annual daily record of 2,722 Compostelas were handed out. I think that yesterday's figure may be a new record for this year. Even if not it is still an extraordinary figure!
PS. Looking back at some earlier posts I see that on one day in July 2015 3,013 Compostelas were issued. Staggering

Did you have any problems finding somewhere to stay? Does the town feel as crowded as these big numbers might suggest? I save my visits to Santiago until quieter times of year. I cannot even begin to imagine nearly 3,000 people passing through the pilgrim office on a single day. Not to mention those like yourself who choose not to darken its doors

Did you have any problems finding somewhere to stay? Does the town feel as crowded as these big numbers might suggest? I save my visits to Santiago until quieter times of year. I cannot even begin to imagine nearly 3,000 people passing through the pilgrim office on a single day. Not to mention those like yourself who choose not to darken its doors

Hmm... Yes there was a lot of pellies... At some moments it actually felt hard to walk through the streets, they are so narrow. One of two "citizens" looked like a pilgrim. Around the Cathedral, there were only pilgrims... The queu to get to Mass at noon was endless. On the other hand, the Pilgrim Office and the bus booth next to it were almost deserted, probably because of Mass...!

I stayed at a hostal, through Booking, there was no problem to find a place. It looked like only half of the rooms were rented (25 euros).

But what will happen in 2021..... I cannot imagine...

I would still want to go on a Holy Year, I might have to avoid 25th July though and definitely avoid the Frances. With more time I hopefully will have I can take a longer route, Via de la Plata would likely be the one.

I so, so hope that it won't be like that at the beginning of November, the time I plan to be there. (And hope to find a pilgrim hostal at a reasonable price ; 25 euros, i.e. about 40 canadian dollars, is very expensive.)

We arrived on July 27th, and it didn't seem that crowded to me, but it was our first time and I have nothing to compare it to. It took us about 45 minutes to get our Compostela. We had reserved a place to stay in Santiago, so not sure if it was hard for people who did not reserve. I do know there were a lot of scout(?) groups and a ton of other people who started right before and at the 100k mark. We didn't have any issues with crowds until towards the end.
