Busy Primitivo?

Time of past OR future Camino
Many, many Caminos, mostly past maybe some future.
Greetings Primitivo Pundits. I begin my 6th Spanish Camino on Sept 13th (next week). I would like to do a new route and have read so many of your reports about the Salvador and Primitivo, and have enough days to do them comfortably. They look like beautiful routes with amazing historical significance. My concern is the growth in pilgrim numbers on the Primitivo this year. Am I going to get into a "bed race" between Oviedo and Melide? I am a relatively slow walker and sometimes become stressed out when numerous people pass me and I'm not sure of the bed situation in the next town. Are there forum members out there at the moment? Has there been any such problems on the Primitivo recently? Thank you for your input.

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

I did a couple of stages on the Primitivo this July and found it always pretty empty. Most places weren't even half full. I can't imagine it'll be a whole lot worse in September. It's nowhere near as popular as the other longer caminos.

Bed race from Melide onwards though, of course. That's where it joins the Frances!

My first time I walked the Primitivo was really busy, it was just the right time for pilgrims to arrive in Santiago for July 25th. St. James day. I still didn't book ahead and only got caught out once. If in doubt just book the next night ahead, but Im sure you will be fine.

You won't be disappointed with the Salvador/Primitivo route! Though it is a culture shock walking into Melide! But, there are alternatives to that too!

I walked the Salvador and then the Primitivo last week in June and first two weeks in July this year. The only place that was tight for accommodation was Grado, the first stage out of Oviedo on the Primitivo. I stayed at the municipal Albergue there, there was a queue when I arrived there around 1pm and it filled up very quickly. No problems elsewhere but from Melide onwards towards Santiago I reserved in advance and also reserved prior to my arrival in Santiago.
The only downside for me on the Primitivo was the mud on the path in some places-good footwear essential, I wore runners and had soaking feet a number of times when I got to my destination even though the weather was fine most of the time.
Buen Camino!

My wife and I walked the Primitivo in sept/Oct 2017 and found finding a place to stay no problem. We did stay in a number of pensions as this was our fourth camino and we decided to be a bit more comfortable for not much more money.
