My husband and I are walking from Pamplona on Oct 12. We fly into Bilbao on the 10th and plan to catch a bus to Pamplona. My question is: are we able to walk into the station and purchase a ticket on the day of travel or are advanced reservations needed? And does anyone know which station? Thanks for your help.

A selection of Camino Jewellery
Yes, you can buy your tickets at the bus station, Termibus, which is where the bus from the airport leaves you.

St James' Way - Self-guided 4-7 day Walking Packages, Reading to Southampton, 110 kms
Thanks for the quick reply. I guess I have 1 more question. Do trains work the same way? Say we wanted to hop on a train somewhere along the way, can we buy a ticket without advance reservations?

Yes, you can buy the tickets at the train station from the clerk but maybe the train will be full. That you can check on http://www.renfe.com/

Buen Camino!

No problems buying train or bus tickets the day of travel.
By the way, if you travel via train you can purchase a Tarjeta Dorado for $6-10 if you are a senior of a certain age. It will give you greatly reduced train fares.

However, that said, I prefer the big beautiful buses in Spain.

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
Would that also be true for buses from T4? Would there be any problem with 5 people getting on a bus to aLeon without advance tickets?

The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.
