Alex: The Wise Pilgrim Apps are VERY cheap, like USD 1.99 each. Plus, there is a bundle of the most popular apps / routes that is even cheaper, on average. As Caminio apps and hard copy guides go, the Wise Pilgrim Guides and the really cool Wisely Guides are among the least expensive. In 2017, I even persuaded Michael to size the guidebooks to fit cargo pockets on pants.
Yes, I know the text is small. Many folks complained about that. As a true pilgrim and businessman, Michael heard. As a result, the newer revisions and newer guides all have a revised typeface that is easier to read.
The Wisely Guides completely revised the mapping scheme of the original apps, in favor of a downloaded (one time) topographical map using the GPRS capability to locate your phone on the downloaded map. This replaces the previous real-time Google Satellite view map. The previous method consumed a lot of data and battery life.
The Wise Pilgrim Guides were VERY GOOD before. Now, with the addition of the Wisely Guides, they are amazing. You can combine the guide information and a GPS app in one.
Michael charges a small amount for his guides because this is how he makes his living. He could charge more, but he wants more pilgrims to use his products.
This IS his full-time job. He lives in Santiago and supports a family. So, when you invest in the Wise / Wisely Guides, you are helping a brother pilgrim AND getting perhaps the best guides and location mapping available.
BTW, Michael obtained a new 'recycled' hybrid bicycle last summer. He mounts GPS tracking sensors to the bike and uses it to confirm or reconfirm all his distances. Whenever I am in Santiago, it is difficult to nail him down for a social visit, as he is always off on one Camino route or another developing new or revised Camino Guides.
Lastly, these guides are available at the iTunes App Store and on the Android Store. Also, Michael's website:
www.wisepilgrim.com has links to each store....(I think)
Hope this helps.
