Last sello

We have now been walking Camino Primitivo and will soon end in Lugo. From there we will go by bus to Santiago, since we have walked Camino Frances earlier. Of course we have collected many nice sellos and it would nice to have the last sello from the pilgrims office in Santiago. Is that possible when we arrive by bus?

Don't think so - you have to have walked the last 100km into Santiago

My idea is you can ask the guard for a sello, of course no Compostela. But I think a sello only is possible ( think I read it somewhere here on an earlier thread ).

There are two sellos which the PO in SdC is giving.
1st is a sello that confirms that you arrived in Santiago and technically have the same significance/meaning as any previous sellos you collected. It's stamped in the last empty box in your Credencial.
2nd one is the sello with which PO confirms that you are eligible for obtaining the Compostela and is put under the information page (first inside) with your name, starting point and date etc. But if you don't want you don't have to obtain Compostela of course

The Correos to the left of PO also has very nice sello!

So just say that to the guard and skip the long Compostela line. This year even the ordinary sello line was too long for my thirst and that's why I know about that Correos sello

Yes, you can get the FINAL SELLO. Tell the Security Guard that you simply want "SOLO SELLO, Por Favor."

You will be directed or escorted to a staff person who will affix one of the two different sellos to your credential to close it out. Once this is done, this particular credential can no longer be used to support obtaining a Compostela. The specific location of the final sello in your credencial does that.

When you return to complete your walking pilgrimage into Santiago, obtain a new credencial to document that pilgrimage. This will document that you walked more than the minimum 100 km into Santiago. It will be enough for you to get a Compostela.

IF YOU ALSO WANT A CERTIFICATE OF DISTANCE, bring this first, earlier credencial. Although it has been closed for Compostela purposes, it can still be used to establish that you started farther down the route to bolster a request for a longer distance on the Certificate of Distance.

Finally, If you KNOW you will return to finish the entire Camino from your current stopping point, DO NOT seek the Cathedral stamp now. When you return to finish, you can / should simply pick up where you left off. But, on this second go, you must walk at least the final 100 km into Santiago.

When you arrive at Santiago, the stamps will establish that you walked the Camino Primitivo with a calendar break at Lugo. THIS IS NORMAL. Some pilgrims take 3 -5 years to finish and produce the same credencial, collecting stamps in order until they arrive at Santiago.

I loved the stamp from the post office in Santiago. I bought a post card with a picture of the Cathedral, had post office stamp it and mailed it home to myself. A souvenir I didn’t have to carry. They also put a St James postage stamp on it.
