Dear pilgrims,
Id like to receive your advice.
Would love to walk the route from Vezelay with my tent, nog staying in albergues, just camping.
The accomodation list I found shows few campings, it doesnt seem sufficient.
Did any of you walk the camino this way? How did you manage?

Or can you recommand other routes in France that are good to walk and camp?
Thank you!
Linde

I recall staying at least three times in campgrounds, so they exist. Wild camping is generally prohibited in France if it is on public property and within some distance (5 km sticks in my mind) away from a campground. It can be done, but may be just as expensive as staying in the gite d'etape. Bon chemin.

We have walked the Nevers route and on to Limoges. There was only one camping spot that I can remember. However, it is quite isolated in that we saw only 4 pilgrims on the trail in a two and a half week period. A mix of both farmland and forest. I think stealth camping would be possible, i.e. don't camp until just as night falls, and be up and moving with first light. No fires. Cemeteries are also possible in this mode of camping.

Very light, comfortable and compressible poncho. Specially designed for protection against water for any activity.

Our Atmospheric H30 poncho offers lightness and waterproofness. Easily compressible and made with our Waterproof fabric, its heat-sealed interior seams guarantee its waterproofness. Includes carrying bag.

France has a great network of camping aires... we have a campervan and we can stay overnight just about anywhere... there are lots and lots of aires and many villages have them. But I dont know if they are only for campers? Worth exploring that route? http://en.airecampingcar.com/ Also there is a group called France Passion https://www.france-passion.com/en/ this is a network of private properties that allow motorhomes to stay for a night or more... so there maybe some of these on the vezeley that would also be happy for you to camp?

I live near St Astier and Perigueux on the Vezeley and I dont see too many pilgrims but a lot of the route is rural so I am kind of inclined to think you should be ok to camp BUT 100% NO FIRES. We're not even allowed to have bonfires in our garden .... NO FIRES is a big thing. And... of course, take your rubbish with you.

If you want to see other routes in france here are the GR's https://www.gr-infos.com/gr-en.htm

I hope you find this helpful?

Can anyone help. I am planning on cycling the Camino Vezeley in Sept 2019 then onwards to Santiago. Is this doable by bike and are there any english guidebooks available. Also, I will be flying into Paris, does anyone know the easiest form of transport to get from CDG to Vezeley to start my camino. Looking forward to any help whatsoever..

Hello Jacques, thank you for the information. I think I may just ride the Chemin de Paris. Less hassle trying to get to Vezely. Hopefully it will not be too rough getting out of Paris to begin this Camino. Cheers Ingrid.

Hello Ingrid,

No problem to go on the VĂ©zelay route with the bike.
VĂ©zelay has almost no connection to public transportation, the closest train station is "Sermizelles-VĂ©zelay" (around 10 km), have a look to the Office du tourisme
Another possibility is to use BlaBlaCar
For the english book, check the Amis de la Voie de VĂ©zelay web site, or Nederlands Genootschap van Sint Jacob
And the Miam Miam Dodo...

Buen Camino, Jacques-D.
Jacques, how do you get to Vezelay from Sermizelles-Vezelay?
