Hey All

Hey I am planning on riding a bike or e bike not sure yet which one but what is the best way to ride from Santiago de Compastela?

Do you recommend go from Santiago to Finisterre to Muzia to Santiago or Santiago to Muxia to Finisterre to Santiago?

Thanks all

Hello. There are two significant hills that may be difficult to negotiate on a bike. First one is from Finisterre towards SdC, as you leave Cée there is a dramatic steep hill that may be better to go down, instead of up! See my website's day three for this information. The second steep hill is between Finisterre and Muxía, the steepest side is the drop into Muxía (from Finisterre). So, in reality, you have to choose your poison.

I have done it from SdC to Finisterre, Finisterre to Muxía, and SdC to Muxía, several different times, always on foot, and never the entire loop at once. Regardless of which direction you go, you will love it! Folks do it from both directions.

My take is the uphill climb from the sea, in total, from Muxía to SdC would be easier than the uphill from the sea from Finisterre to SdC. The extension between Finisterre and Muxía, either direction would be six of one, half a dozen of the other!

Buen Camino and Happy planning.

Elle Bieling many thanks for your help :) it is greatly appreciated :) just so i get this right there are a steep hill no matter which way i ride but the lesser of the 2 hills which is easier to climb is from santiago to muxia? then go to fisterre and then back to santiago?

thanks again Buen Camino

ps i will check out your website also thanks

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
I have walked both ways a few times.

Santiago - Finisterre - Muxia - Santiago, One small problem with this way is that the route between Muxia - Santiago is not that well marked (the only part of the route that isn't). Problem is negotiating some of the villages from this direction as they can be like mazes. I recommend a map app with gpx files (like mapsme) if going this way. Benefit of this way is it is easier in my opinion.

Santiago - Muxia - Finisterre - Santiago, The hill out of Cee is a real killer steep uphill slog in this direction! You will be pushing a bike up that. It is not long but vicious.

As Elle says there are hills either way though.

(Note that Finisterre - Muxia - Santiago, or Muxia - Finisterre - Santiago is over 100km so you are eligible for a compostella if walking, not sure if it is over 200km to be eligible by bike though).

No, other way is best for you (easier) in my opinion - Finisterre first

Sorry to be confusing, @pilgrimglenn7. I agree that Santiago - Finisterre - Muxia - Santiago is best as @Davey Boyd says. That is what I was trying to convey!
