St. Olav's Way route advice

Hello! I am planning to walk part of St. Olav's way from the end of May into early June (between 7-10 days). I have been attempting to use the Pilegrimsleden site to determine how best to do this. It seems to me that going from Oppdal to Trondheim would reasonably be 7-8 days. For those who have done St. Olav's Way/the Gudbrandsdalen Path, doe this time estimation seem accurate? Wold Oppdal be a good entry point? And would this be too early in the season? I would appreciate any advice you might have!

Hi Hayden,
I walked St Olav's Way starting in Oslo at the end of May in 2016. That year, the weather was unseasonably warm & I had only a half a day of light rain & one other short shower...unheard of for Norway at that time. It took me 7 days to walk the Oppdal to Trondheim stretch arriving late June so your time estimation is spot on. I agree starting in Oppdal is ideal for your timeframe. By starting there, you avoid the climbing, isolation & exposure of the high plateau just prior to Oppdal.
Enjoy planning & best wishes for your walk.
God tur!

I walked the section from Oppdal in seven days in July 2012, and the last day was a relatively short walk. No days we overly long, noting that by that stage I had been walking for three weeks, so I was getting used to doing longer days! You might want to think about doing one or two shorter days to get settled in. Whether that would push you out to an eight day walk would depend on how you managed that pattern. I think it could still be done in seven days.

I planned my pilgrimage to arrive at Trondheim to be there for St Olav's Day. I don't have a view about walking earlier. I think @Bradypus walked earlier in the year, and if so, he might have some advice on that.

Missing the Dovrefjell is a shame. All the legs are different, but the Dovrefjell had its own special charm, delights and demands.

Been away for a few days and only just saw this. I walked the Sundsvall to Trondheim route and I walked in early May. So not strictly comparable. I certainly had several nights in sub-zero temperatures and several km of snow-covered trail to cross at the border.
