VdlP ‘compostela’

Fast approaching Astorga, having walked from Seville. Just wondering if there is any kind of ‘Compostela’ or certificate available in Astorga for completing the VdlP. (I am not continuing to Santiago this time). I am guessing not, but thought I would ask anyway. (I gained 4 extra certificates in Finisterre and muxia last year!)

Indeed. If you walk Camino Frances from Roncesvalles the middle point is roughly in Sahagun. But not if you walk from Seville or even further south (Algeciras, Cadiz).

My post was badly written...apologies...was in a hurry to be elsewhere with someone verbally telling me to get moving or we'll be late.

I should have said that Sagahan is the halfway point between SJPP and SDC on the Camino Frances. I'm not sure if one can get a halfway certificate departing from other places, such as Roncesvelles.

Come to think of it, the certificate is written in Latin. It may not even be a half way certificate for all I know because I can't read or understand Latin. It looks nice anyway.

A small pilgrim group we ran into at the Plaza Mayor, told us about this certificate, so we just tagged along with them and walked out of a magnificent church / museum kind of setup, certificate in hand after paying a few euros and allowing them to look at our Compostela.

Actually, I think that it's the approximate midpoint between Roncesvalles - the traditional starting point for Spaniards - and Santiago.

The VDLP ending was an anticlimax in Astorga. Nothing on the streets to mark the end. There were no yellow arrows coming into the town either.

The Sahagun tourist office issues that midway certificate, just as the Muxia/Finisterre certificates are from the Tourist office. There is no church sanctioned paper reward for anything other than arriving in Santiago.

Why not getting artistic.
Enlarge you last stamp or get one separated piece of paper in a copy shop add a picture of yourself and maybe some fellow companions add your walked km and a date and let it be signed at the tourist office. You can add some bills, maybe an add and a ticket. Then you have a great framable document for a long time. I did my honeymoon destinations like this they are now more than 30 years old and still a great reminder hanging in every hallway I ever lived around the world.

The touristic equivalent to VdlP is ruta de la Plata: http://www.rutadelaplata.com
It's longer (Seville - Gijón) but afaik you can get a diploma after all. They have another passport to be stamped which gives you some benefits along the route. Once in Gijón you can still walk to Santiago on Camino del Norte.

Walking to Oviedo is worth another diploma/"compostela", which you have to pay for (3€?).
