Hello everyone :)

Just wanted to say to this wonderful, kind and thoughtful camino community a BIG thank you! I hold a great deal of gratitude for your posts over the last 3 years that I have been following this forum, knowing full well that one day I would make the decision to do the CF. Early April/May 2020 :) :) after 20 years of wanting to do this. I will be a few months shy of my 64th birthday and going alone. Thanks to all of you, I already feel quite prepared in so many ways. My equipment list is already almost done. Although fairly fit, I am upping my training goals. Thank you Ivar for playing such a key role in creating and managing this forum filled with respect, tolerance and information. Feeling very blessed today. Just wanted to share with this "family" my joy!

Aloha Danielle, I too have been following for a while (2013), also have nearly all of my equipment (finally found a sleeping bag I'm very excited about), and also will be heading off in April 2020. I will turn 59 April 13th and am trying to decide how I want to celebrate this milestone, leave from SJPP on that day or be somewhere like Pamploma to celebrate, also will be alone. We should stay in touch; what part of the world are you from? I'm coming from Hawaii in the U.S. Buen Camino and Congratulations!

Hi Jill. I’m from northern Ontario Canada. Still trying to figure out the sleeping bag. Either super expensive for down filled or too heavy for synthetic. Having firmed up departure date for my Camino. Thank you for your well wishes :)

Correction: haven’t firmed up. Darn auto correct.

Hi Danielle! I am also excitedly planning my first Camino for April/May 2020, and of a similar age to you. I love this forum and all the kind people who share their knowledge and experiences. Perhaps I’ll meet you on the path? Happy planning and training!

Thank you Angela. Seems we are the three amigos with Jill also planning an April 2020 start. Very excited. :)

Make that 4 amigas. I am also in your age range and planning for an April/May 2020 start to my SJPdP to Burgos Camino. Five to six weeks consecutive vacation is not an option, so I am walking Sarria to Santiago this Christmas partly to add the magic of the holidays and partly to avoid the school crowds. Hopefully we will meet each other in 2020. 🤠

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

Write it down and tell everyone so you are now committed and cannot back out !!!!!!!

Welcome and Buen Camino !

Hi Danielle. Congrats to your commitment.
I have exactly the same plan, starting in early April 2020. I'm not sure where I will start from but I plan to fly to Paris.
Two days ago I've got my "sleeping bag" a SnugPak Jungle Blanket. It is just 900somthing gramm and packs quite compact. I'm sure it will be warm enough with a liner.

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.

I’ve been doing wat too much research on finding an ultralight sleeping bag with stink no favorite in sight. Either too heavy or costly. I’ll look up your snug pack blanket and check it out. Appreciate the heads up. Buen Camino and welcome! :)

I highly recommend not taking a sleeping bag, just a silk sleeping bag liner. Much much smaller and lightweight. Albergues will have blankets for warmth. If you're traveling in May it can get quite warm also.

I did this based on others advice and didn't regret it! Helps with pack weight and size!

I met many people your age and older doing the Camino - you'll not regret doing it!

Buen Camino.

She wants to start early April. I might start already in March. At this time it could be pretty chilly I've heard.

Sure - a lot of Albergues will offer more that one blanket if needed. But, each to their own....

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.

That is correct. First week. Unfortunately at this age I’m more like Goldilocks...either too cold or too hot...rarely just right. :) so...my research continues. Appreciate the product highlight though. Thanks.

I just learned that at least in Roncesvalles and O Cebreiro are no blankets supplied. The are the highest and coldest spots on the Frances (https://www.caminodesantiago.me/community/threads/sleeping-bag-vs-liner.62397/).
Sure - I remember Ronconvalles being quite warm. There are of course other accommodation options there also. I
stayed at the private Albergue in O Cebrerio which did have blankets; no idea about the municipal. Needs to be booked though as it's quite small.
In any event, go your way!

Down bag (90/10 duvet) of 700 fills with 180 g (6.34 ounces) of filling. Mummy-shaped structure, ideal when you are looking for lightness with great heating performance.

Be prepared for wet, cold weather in March and April, and you need to plan carefully to find albergues that are open - many don’t open until mid-April. There is list of open albergues that is available each day; although when I walked last November, some of the albergues that were supposed to be open that day were closed, so the list wasn’t completely reliable. It is a bit of a challenge to walk in the off-season, but it is still rewarding.

I am planning to get a quilt from Enlightened Equipment for my Dec camino and the 2020 Spring (and Fall locally). Lots of sleeping options with a quilt.

I took an EE Revelation 30Deg quilt. It was way too warm for April/May 2018. I am going to get the 50 Deg version for next year. I loved the versatility and quality of the quilt.

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

€46,-
@Bagman7540 thanks for the info. I was debating between the 40 and 50.

Well...we are now six (6) amigas...doing the camino in April/May 2020. Welcome "dreaminggypsy" to the forum. If this keeps up, we will definitely skew the numbers for our age group for 2020 camino stats. Hope you have as much fun as I am right now planning it. There are so many experienced and supportive members here that are willing to help in any way they can.

To all the other "amigas"...we many need a group name now! lol 😊
