Camino Portugues May 2019
Such an amazing journey. I left Porto on May 4 and arrived in Santiago May 16. My Camino was filled with so many great people and places and insights i can't yet put it all in words. But being a peregrina was all I had felt called to and MORE.

I went by myself and on the second day met a fellow peregrina and we then traveled together to Santiago...what a treat. I stayed at two algerques, a couple private guesthouses, some larger guesthouses, hostels, pensions and a couple hotels. My route stayed along the coast the first two days and then stayed on the coastal portion that was really more in the hills with some ocean views until Caminha, where we followed the river to Valenca/Tui and then through Galicia to Santiago. Got to experience boardwalks, cobblestones, some rainy days, some very hot days and some perfect weather days. Food was excellent...so simple, fresh. Loved Spain but really fell in love with Portugal...and Cafe con Leche. Such great coffee in Portugal.

Route became much more crowded from Tui onward. Started making reservations the night before by asking the host of where we stayed to help with where to stay in the next town. Worked really well for the last portion of the trip.

Such an amazing journey (I am repeating myself, but that keeps ringing in my heart.) I am still "unpacking" all that i found on my Camino (a phrase my husband used when he walked the Primitive last fall..and what I really understand now!)

So grateful for my month of May!

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

Congratulations Martha. It sounds like you had a wonderful Camino, and will no doubt be back soon. Rest up and start planning 😉.
Cheers

We must have been walking at the same time and had very similar experiences to yours. We started on 6 May finished on 19th May. Good quality food, fish especially. Really helpful people too.

I've just corrected our finish date.

Welcome back, Martha. I’m sure you have a trunk full of memories to last a lifetime and it sounds as if the Camino will leave a lasting impression on your life. It did for me, walking the CP two summers ago. Couldn’t agree more on the love for Portugal!

€2,-/day will present your project to thousands of visitors each day. All interested in the Camino de Santiago.
I think our route was similar to Martha's.

Vila Nova de Cerveira - we can recommend Casa Gwendoline. www.CasaGwendoline.com
Fao was a lovely town and staying at Casa da Matriz was very special. (Tel.+351 964 251 369 or that might be 389 sorry I am reading the phone number on the sello.)

Tui - Albergue San Martin 640 616 473

Padron- Albergue Cruces de Iria tel 649602092 if you stay there do go to Hector's free lecture at 4pm.

Careful. I felt the same after my first Camino, also from Porto. Now I just HAVE to do one every year!

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
I believe your CP pilgrimage trip will keep "ringing in your heart" for many years. I plan my first Camino trip this September, going on the Camino Frances, and was wondering how many kms did you hike on average each day and what you felt was the most comfortable daily kms day you experienced?
Welcome Back!

Hi Martha
My friend and I will be walking a very similar path around the same time in 2020, planning to be in Santiago for my 50th! A couple of years ago, I spent 3 weeks on the Camino Francés. It changed my life, and ever since, my iPhone has been sending me memories of that journey. So happy to be starting my physical and spiritual preparation yet again for another soul feed. We will be walking on to Muxia-Fisterra. Last time, I walked alone and learned much about my internal life. I believe sharing the journey with a friend this time will be equally illuminating, and a little scary, as I love my alone time☺️. The Camino never ceases to show us what we need to see. Strangely enough, for a loner, the thing I loved most about my first Camino was the people I met along the way! Gotta love Life❤️
Here’s to many more Caminos for you, for me, for us all!

Hi again!
Just wondering, from your experience, would a May pack be erring towards warmth, or is it getting warm by that time? I know that there are no guarantees with Nature...😊

I had some hot days and some very cold (for me) rainy days....mainly temperate. So I guess i was given all scenarios, so to speak. But the cold was more because I was so wet from walking in the rain all day. It was overall temperate but I always was glad I had my fleece for the evening as after In got cleaned up i was ready for something warm.

Another early May 2018 walker here. Our group experienced mild weather, a few very wet days (chilly) and some days too hot. So really we experienced a bit of everything apart from bitter winter weather.
Clothing LAYERS are the answer.
A good waterproof poncho or jacket - vital.

I would like to walk the river route in Tui next month. I can see on google maps exactly where it starts, but it seems a bit overgrown. Has anybody used this route this year or last year...
Hello, my friend of 50+ years and I are on our first Camino walk. We are looking for: 1) safe, comfortable hostels in Lisbon; 2) stages from Lisbon to Porto (via Tomar) in about 16 days...
Hi I have searched everywhere to see if there is a luggage service from Lisbon to Porto. I know there is from Porto to Santiago, but Lisbon ???. Thanks for any info.
