A few commemts, prompted by an 'is it worth it' question, and just because there may be interest...

On a rainy day, early in the morning, there is a special feeling here. It's 'normal,' rather than a zoo. But pilgrims still walk into the plaza, to dance, weep, or just have a quiet moment ib the rain before the cathedral.

And for those who may be wondering what it looks like inside...well, restoration is in full swing. But you can venerate the relics, give Santiago a hug of gratitude, light a candle, and go to mass at the Santa Maria chapel. It's definitely a different atmosphere, but all necessary to keep the shrine in good shape for years to come - and so the on the next holy year the cathedral is in as good shape as possible.

Pilgrim's mass af the Church of San Francisco is a joy, free of the camera-snapping crowds. The people who were threre were there to give thanks, not to gawk at a spectacle. And if you go back to the sacristy, they are offering nice certificates.

Offering nice what? I'm on the edge of my seat!
Haha! Edited, though I was tempted to leave it as it was.

Welcome back to town, VN! Great photos. Glad you got to enjoy the silence of the morning.
Arg. I was coming to PH today...and it is Wednesday. My mistake. (Heads-up all: Pilgrim House is closed on Wednesday. :( )

Thanks for your observations and pictures! This will be a comfort to those visiting SdC.especial new pilgrims!

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
I went to the cathedral yesterday and it was very different inside. Almost peaceful without all the people but of course there were the loud talkers, people taking flash pictures and arguing with the guard to get in about why their backpack should be allowed though clearly stated no back packs. I did the tour of the Portico of Gloria and it was awesome. I am glad though that I did see the inside before the construction stared. Still beautiful

Hello VNwalking,
I walked into Santiago d C last week on Wednesday (around 17hr20) and I had heavy rain 5km before, but that couldn't kill the joy 😉
I just had not enough time to attend the mass. Had my Compostela at around 18hrs.
Just time to visit to the cathedral, hug St James and say a prayer in the little chapel.
Went out and all shops were closed ☹️
So ...like some others said, definitely, next time!
Calculate more time (when job allows) in SdC😉
Well done - buen camino 👣

A selection of Camino Jewellery
And as an addandum to all that:
This rainy day at about 09.40, there was one (1!!!) person ahead of me in the queue at the Pilgrim's office.
The nerve of him. ;) ;) ;)

Not me! Quite apart from the obvious disclaimer that I’m female, I really don’t need any more compostelas, but if I had known you were in the plaza when I was I would have been delighted to meet the author of so many valuable posts.

The Compostela for the lost Credencial?
No problemo. It helped to have friends to smooth the way. Thank you @Alan Pearce . 🙏

How rude of me not to say hello. Sorry @Paladina, it'd have been fun to meet. ;)
I also don't need the paper, but that's the only way to get the one more Invierno pilgrim for the statistics.

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.

Not rude at all, since neither of us knows what the other looks like. Even if I had sought accreditation for the Mozarabe I doubt that I would have been granted an indulgence. There are too many gaps in my proof of passage when I lost my way in the sierras. I hope you find your missing credencial.

I was trying to joke...;)

Thanks!
It is a mystery where it went, and if it comes back it cones back...oh, well...there were some wonderful sellos.
The Mozarrabe sounds a wee bit intense. Congratulations, @Paladina !

Could I bother you for a photo of this? We were all wondering what it would look like in an earlier thread.

Has anybody recently volunteered at the Pilgrim office for the 15 day timeframe? Where did you stay in Santiago?
For those who are in Santiago 🙏🏻
