Is the software to down load the route into a smart phone (Android)
I mean day long sections I could download then follow on mapping software

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
I did the first half of the Via de La Plata in May and I really like Windy maps. You don't have to download the route. By expanding the screen you see the Via del Plata and your place on it. I thought it was easy to use and reliable.

When I walked the VDLP I used maps.me and downloaded the route via Gerald Kelly's webpage. He also has an online guide to download which came in really handy.

Hi innkeeper
I found Thomas’ resources to be excellent.
Refer to his post and ‘link’ above for full details.
Using maps me ‘when required’ in the trail, you don’t need to use data - it works offline. Just use ‘as needed’ tho to conserve your battery.
His link includes tracks for so many of the routes that once you’ve downloaded maps me app to your phone , these tracks overlay .. magic when you’re just needing to find out where the track is ..

Buen camino

St James' Way - Self-guided 4-7 day Walking Packages, Reading to Southampton, 110 kms
@intrepidtraveler have you got a link to the web pages you mentioned
I don't have access to my laptop right now. Cutting and pasting links, or trying to on my tablet, for me is an exercise in frustration. If you type in viadelaplataguide.net you will end up in the right place. The link to download gps tracks appears after you click on download and get a download email. Hope this helps.
