For Sale/Wanted Looking for used gear for my upcoming Camino Francés

Francés (SJPDP to Finisterre), Sept-Oct 2019
Warm greetings, Everyone -

I'm walking the Camino Francés (and on to Finisterre) from Sept. 7th (my birthday!) until Oct. 19th.
I'm a minimalist, and would much prefer to get my hands on some used gear than pay for new stuff.
My hope is to connect with some of you in my area (I'm in White Rock, BC, about 45 min south of Vancouver).
Once I do, I'll post a list of what I'm looking for.

Thanks so much, and Buen Camino to all!

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

G'day Nathan,

I don't know whether or not you have Saturday morning garage sales (at people's homes where they sell of stuff they don't want) but I'm an habitué of these where I live in a small coastal village (just over 2,000 inhabitants) on the south coast of NSW.

Well, my Kathmandu pack I used about 75 litre capacity, cost me over $300 at one of their half price sales. I bought another pack subsequently at a garage sale for $15. It's almost the same capacity, of high quality, and has a number of features the Kathmandu pack lacks. This past Saturday morning for $2 I picked up a beautiful well designed and made smaller back pack of around 25 litre capacity. Eat your hearts out those who pay mega bucks for Osprey etc!

Vinnies and the Sals op shops sometimes have stuff. I got a virtually brand new Mountain Designs Goretex rain jacket at Vinnies for $20, but must say this was a very lucky purchase. I don't like Goretex (all my previous ones weren't at all rainproof) but couldn't resist it at the price.

Sometimes the Sunday morning markets have stuff, but often it's stuff with jacked up prices that the regular traders have bought at garage sales the day before.

But don't think that you can find stuff by just turning up one Saturday morning and expecting it to be there. I'm a regular at garage sales but for me it's more of a social outing. I rarely buy very much, if anything at all, and frequently there is nothing there of interest to me.

Be sure to check with Ebay and Craigslist; you'll likely have much better luck.

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.

Great advice, Bogong! Thank you! :)

I always buy second at REI garage sales. Packs, shoes clothing. I bought a almost new trail runners, regular price $160.00 and at the garage sale $60.00, used only once . Purchased my $220.00 Osprey pack for $80.00 with life time warranty.

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.

We don't have REI in Canada, only MEC (Mountain Equipment Co-op)...
AND, thanks to your comment, I just discovered that MEC has a summer clearance sale and a gear swap page. Much obliged! :)
