While on the Portuguese Coastal Camino, I rather enjoyed a Magnum Sandwich ice cream. For those who don't know what it looks like. It has a biscuit underneath, rather than a stick. When I came back home to Scotland, I thought it would be nice to have a Magnum Sandwich, which would bring back happy memories of my Camino. Unfortunately, they are nowhere to be found. Tried all the usual places.
I would imagine, there must be other things, that takes your senses back on the Camino.
Coffee, tea, croissant, tortilla !

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

Thanks to my 2012 Camino walking-mate, who introduced me to Magnum ice cream bars, I am addicted. Fortunately/unfortunately I can buy a box of 3 bars at my local grocery store...and I do that more often than I should. They are wonderful!

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.

I love Magnum ice cream bars too, and look forward to them in Spain on hot afternoons if I want a quick "pick me up" while walking, but am not yet ready to take a relaxing sit down break.

€2,-/day will present your project to thousands of visitors each day. All interested in the Camino de Santiago.
If want a quick pick-me-up on camino, or one that reminds me of the camino, I would definitely prefer a Kas limon soda. I don't know if it has fewer calories than an ice-cream bar, but at least I can stop at one (I am totally addicted to ice-cream). Unfortunately, I have never seen Kas limon outside of Spain, and frequently could not find it there, where the barman on the VdlP would often pull out a Fanta and expect me to accept that instead: not a chance, too sweet and not refreshing for me.

Kas Limon is the Best—that’s my mid-afternoon refreshing drink!!! I can’t find it in Kitchener-Waterloo.,,maybe in Toronto???

@marylynn
I'll be there in a couple of weeks. I could look for it. if I weren't otherwise occupied. But then, I have heard of heat waves in the east, so I may be desperate.

Move to the states we have Magnums.

No Kas, more’s the pity.

I love tinto de verano made with Kas Limon. The closest substitute that I have found in the US is San Pellegrino lemon soda - it's not too sweet, or too fizzy.

OK, so it wasn’t in Spain, but on the way to SJPDP. My wife and I were walking from our hometown to St. Jean. Somewhere in France (in a couple of places) they had mint flavour Magnums. I now believe in love at first sight, but I haven’t seen them since. Does anybody know them? Or were these one of those ‘limited edition’ things: never to be seen again, probably because I was the only one to buy them?

Anyway, what really takes me back to the Camino’s are the pinchos, those small bites you didn’t order, but are served anyway, when ordering a drink in the afternoon. We don’t get them in Holland. :(
When I think back, I’m not sure if I had them on the Frances that often, but I had them frequently on the Del Norte and the VdlP.

And women!
I always thought that Norwegian women are decent housewives: A lways cleaning the house, cooking lovely meals, taking the dog for a walk, bringing the children to school, knitting nice and warm socks, milking the moose.... 😉

You’re the first one to imply that they also like to drink.

Sounds good! Let’s have a menu peregrino and a bottle of vino tinto one day.

The ice-creams always taste so different (the vanilla is more like a milk cream flavour than actually vanilla) but I will miss all the caramel flavoured things. They are incredible in the Camino. As the freshly squeezed orange juice. Best way to keep hydrated

... well, I am Norwegian and I'm not too sure about that - but we do make good pilgrims and we do like a drink! In my case, an ice cold albariño at the end of the day, preferably with a plate of grilled zamburiñas ... yum!

Sounds like I’d love to dine and drink with you as well.

In order to prevent people getting the wrong impression: in our household my wife and I both do our share of “knitting”. :)

And yes, I clean toilets as well. I guess that means I’m not a ‘real’ man. But I like to drink anyway, just not when I’m cleaning the toilets...

For me, my camino madeleine moment comes in January, the only time of year when Seville oranges are available in Ireland. Where the British and Irish reserve them for making marmalade, the Spanish seem to use them only for ornamental street plantings. In Andalucia, I regularly replenished my supplies of windfalls with these unconsidered trifles. Not being an ice-cream addict, however, I rely on consumer waste to keep me supplied with discarded Magnum sticks, which are the ideal shape and size for scraping debris from beneath the bike’s mudguards without having to remove the wheel each time.

Contrary to other statement, we do have Magnums in Illinois (at my local Jewel). Only the sticks, however, not the sandwiches.

But I'll go with the Kas Limon - a true life saver :) I remember paying a euro for a can from a food truck after walking up one of the nasty hills on the Camino. Would have paid twice that without blinking an eye. Price is really relative.

Massachusetts reports Magnum bar sightings in supermarkets. No Kas or Fanta Limon both of which I love in the summer. As far as Fanta Limon goes, apparently it is only produced in certain Spanish speaking countries- not sure why. Pellegrino is a good substitute and here I can get Polar Bitter Lemon if I search.

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

I loved the chocolate puddings with whipped cream on top, 2 to a package. Since I could not refrigerate them, I ate the two in one sitting. Oh how I loved them and also anywhere I could get rice pudding. They were what I chose if I could get them. Also there was a peach drink that I liked, I think it was ice tea and ca't remember the brand name. I have had it also in Portugal.

I did the same. And I had to buy a spoon to enjoy the puddings!
I brought spoons with me (and saved a couple of compostable ones I got when buying ice-creams. I only used them to carry a bee that got stuck on my leggings to the top of a flower) but the weather was too warm to indulge on caloric food. My next Camino must be on Winter.

Lidl in the UK do a biscuit sandwich ice cream. They also do their own version of a magnum with a stick. My daughter likes them and gets very cross if I beat her to the last one:-}

Thanks, will check Lidl. 😁

Filloas in Galicia! ( like a crepe)...I loved when they were served to us warm as a tapita. I am lucky to have traveled thru Spain a lot and love all the various tapas / pinchos / montaditos that are more typical ...this was new and very different for me. Loved it also because it was authentic to the region.

I wish I had availability to giant Vieiras that are found in seafood restaurants in Santiago. (mouth watering right now).

And I really like the titel of this thread: “Of little importance”.
It’s funny (amazing) how the things of little importance sometimes turn out to be the most meaningful...
That is a very wise reply. It has made me think the Camino is made up of little things, you experience along the Way. Thank you for your thoughts.

..I miss the wine..

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
Tinto de verano was my go to every day at the end of the long days walk (even if it wasn't that long). Can someone remind me what the recipe is for this deliciousness? I really must try to make this here in Canada!

One part red wine, one part lemon soda, over ice. Here in the US the soda that comes closest to the Kas Limon that they have in Spain is San Pellegrino lemon soda.

Another alternative to Kas Limon in the US is bitter lemon, which I can sometimes find in the Northeast. It also is passable if you want a clara.
