Using Correos from Irun and picking up 12 days later in Burgos

I will be walking from Irun to Burgos with my daughters in October. Both of them are going on to other destinations afterwards, so they will have some extra things and would like to send a package ahead, to be picked up when we finish our walk 12 days later.

I have looked at the Paqmochila service by Correos, but they don't cover the Vasco del Interior route.

I looked at the regular "Paq estándar" information and the rates seem reasonable. However, I can't find anything that says how long I can leave it at the destination post office.

Can anyone point me to the information? I was going to send a Help request but they ask for an address in Spain, etc., before you can send an enquiry. So, I knew my fastest assistance would come from the Forum!

Look on elcaminoconcorreos.com. There are two services for pilgrins. One, of course, is Paq Mochila for transporting your pack along the camino. The other service is Paq Peregrino. I may not have given you a very accurate link but the information is there.

that allows you to send a suitcase or something to any other correos where it will be stored for up to 75 days, pricing based on weight and length of storage. This is not the same thing as poste restante where your package is kept for only 15 days.

For you the best would be to send things you don't need while walking on poste restante (PO Box kind of) in any of the post offices in Burgos. From Irun of course. The package will be waiting for you 14 days.

You can ask at the post office and explain the situation but it's enough to write this on the package:

- Lista de Correos
- Your Name (here you may add "Peregrina" so they might keep the package few days after initial 2 weeks)
- Street address (postal number) of the Post office
- The town, maybe province

And voila that's it. Easy peasy, done it many times. OK, my mom from home and I always get the package. You will also get the serial number of the package so you can track it anytime on the Correos web site.

For finding the post office in Burgos (or anywhere in Spain) use this:

The most central in Burgos is probably the one just over the Arlanzon from the El Cid statue. Never mind, you'll find it

I used that service twice this year in May and June, sent a package to Pamplona - Burgos and from Burgos - SdC. It worked out fine, but I had to fill in a form before I could send it off. Both times a very friendly employee helped me.

I also had to show my ID since I'm not spanish, all sorts of informations were written on the form. Also I was not allowed to send some ointment and cream because of some regulations, I'm not sure if that is also the case for liquids. My package weighed around 2 kilos which cost around 20 Euros.

Yeah, I forgot to mention that part filling the form etc. It's part of anti-terrorist fight after bombing of metro in Madrid. Actually very similar when you buy prepaid SIM card in Spain you have to ID yourself.

I am curious that it was so expensive. Page 5 on this tariff sheet shows, for bordering provinces, €10.29 for 2-3 kg, and for other provinces it would be €12.58. I am not so concerned about the exact price, but would like to know if I understand the form correctly.

All the links are a bit vague on details about how long they'll keep parcels, and whether the obscure route combos are served (e.g. Irun to Burgos). However, I am now quite confident that if we walk into a post office in Irun, we'll work out some solution, especially since we only need 12 days.
