My Way, With Joy !
Time of past OR future Camino
2014, 2015, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2022
I will finally be teaching my course at the local university in the spring 2020 session : Walking Pilgrimage, El Camino de Santiago. ( yay!!!! ) As it's a condensed non-credit course this year ( as a pilot for a humanities course next year ), I've been given six sessions of 1.5 hrs each. I'm breaking down the classes to What, Where, Who, How ..and the Why?

I am looking for photos of pilgrim faces of all ages for my class on "who"...I'm creating the video to accompany that session and want to show lots of beautiful faces of all ages and ethnicities. Would appreciate face shots that are clear rather than scenic shots. Thanks to all in advance!

Congratulations on your course KJFSophie - how wonderful to be able to run a course that will be inspirational for your students on a subject that you’re passionate about.

If you haven’t already thought of it, what about including in the ‘Who’ part of your course, content on and photos of those people who serve the pilgrims on the Camino - for example -

* Bar owners
* Albergue owners and staff
* Volunteer hospitaleros
* Volunteers who work at the pilgrim offices both at St Jean and Santiago
* Nuns and Priests
* First Aiders (eg Fellow Forum member David)
* Fellow Forum member Rebekah Scott who has dedicated her life to the Camino
* Fellow Forum member SYates - Sybille Yates who lives in Santiago and who runs the English chaplaincy and has a drop-in centre for pilgrims
* Nate and Faith who run Pilgrim House in Santiago - natefaith on the Forum
* David at Casa de los Dioses near Santibanez de Valdeiglesia on the CF
* Victor at Herrerias who takes pilgrims on his horses up to La Laguna on the CF
* And not forgetting the four-legged pilgrims - wow - what fantastic photos there! The four-legged pilgrims ‘serve’ in their capacity to bring happiness to human pilgrims by their presence and friendliness.

I’m sure that Forum members will be able to supply you with all the photos you’d need for all of the above categories.

Here are a couple of photos from my most recent camino earlier this year:

Me with hospitalero Gilbert from Belgium at Refugio Gaucelmo, donativo albergue at Rabanal on the CF. Gilbert has volunteered at Gaucelmo 15 times and he is a true Camino Angel.

Best of luck with your preparations and please send me a PM if you’d like some further information and photos featuring people from some of the above categories.

Cheers from Oz -

Hi Jenny! If only I had a full semester! I do however plan to include many many of these people when I talk about the infrastructure in the 'how' section. Lots and lots of camino angels make walking possible. With luck, I will be approved to teach a full semester humanities undergraduate course next year...this year is limited to a 'pilot' with only 6 classes....the toughest part has been paring it down to six weeks.
Thank you for your photos :)

Cheers Sophie! Best, best wishes with the pilot course and to being approved to run the full semester humanities undergraduate course.

I agree with you about the camino angels - they’re out there and helping just when and where you really need them.

All the wonderful faces of fellow Forum members and fellow pilgrims too in the photos so far have touched my heart - it’s been a lovely thread to follow. Thank you for putting out the request for those photos Sophie and to all those who’ve responded so far.

Cheers from Oz -

St James' Way - Self-guided 4-7 day Walking Packages, Reading to Southampton, 110 kms
So many happy pilgrims and nice to see a spread of different routes. Here's a couple, one at the top of the Pyreneese which serves to remind us not to take such heavy packs, and another from the Vdlp which shows it need not all be hard slog.

Feel free, good luck! I'll be sitting in one of your classes, if you don't mind. You won't see me, but I'll be very much there ;). By the way, these were all Sep. 2017. I was 63, my wife Gladys at 57 and our son John at 24yrs.
We are planning to do again for 2021 Holy Year.

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
