Bad weather in Almeria

Time of past OR future Camino
FRuture: Camino Sureste (2022)
Dear Forum members,
I will be starting from Almeria on 1st October and I am a bit worried about the current weather in the area.
I am aware that I will be walking along and also crossing the Andarax river just out of Almeria. Does this present any hazard considering the current torrential rain.
Is there any information from the Amigos del Camino in Almeria?
Any input will help.
Thank you and best regards,
Ray

In my experience, they are extremely responsive, but I don’t think any members are active here on the forum. I would cantact them directly.

They list three phones on their web page,
http://www.almeriajacobea.es/p/el-camino-mozarabe-en-almeria-en-los.html
and all use whatsapp.

Buen camino, would love to hear from you along the Mozárabe, you’re in for a treat! Buen camino, Laurie

Hi Raymond,

the weather in Almeria a few days ago was extreme and freak, but you are right in wanting to be informed. At this moment, it is impossible to know what the weather will be like in your first days of Camino, but what happened just week is very unusual.
I imagine along the way you will be walking along "ramblas" (flat looking, dry river beds where water can run violently in case of extreme rains) also called "barrancos" (ravines) if they are narrower or more steep. Those are the natural drainways for excess water and you want to be careful if you need to walk around those areas.

This said, you would normally have time to reach a high, safe place in case of emergency.

The key is to be informed and talk to the locals. In the meantime, I would recommend you to download the AEMET official weather app, where you can see forecast by the hour or the day for your current location, radar/satellite pictures of cloud formations and general weather alerts (yellow, orange or red).

The Almeria amigos del camino seem to be very helpful and accesible, as far as I have seen.

As you go to higher altitudes, it can get chilly, beware of that too, the Sierra Nevada is right there.

BTW, I live in the province of Granada, not far from Almeria.

BUEN CAMINO!!!

There was some damage, but the Amigos del Camino de Almería have already fixed it, wow!

there are quite a few photos there in Facebook

They’re outstanding.
I saw a post from some pilgrims that Nely advised a detour on the stage that they walked yesterday. As always, the association is taking great care of the pilgrims on the way. Stay in touch with them and they will take care of you.

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.

Hi OzAnnie,
Just arrived home from Spain.
I did walk the Mozarabe from Almeria. It was a most beautiful experience. Had no rain and the river beds completely dry. I managed to walk the route in 20days.
My main comment about the route re the little number and quality of albergues. Sometimes had ti resort to Hostals.
Another is about inconsistant way marks ..had a few wrong turnings.
Notwithstanding these it was a great walk witha amasing scenary, lovely villages and cities.
Regards,
Ray

There can’t be two Raymond Aquilinas who recently walked the Mozárabe, so this must be you!
Very nice, peregrino.

Hello fellow pilgrims. I will start walking the Camino Mozárabe from Almería on 5th April 2024 and just wonder whether there is anybody else there around that date with the same objective?
