I downloaded some maps and info here. In Spanish, but I am hoping that using in combination with an app I will get there without too much of a hassle. When are you walking? Mel

Are you starting in May or July please?

I'm in the UK and we write dates as dd/mm/yy but the USA use mm/dd/yy so there can be confusion with certain combinations.

We're planning to walk the Madrid in late August or early September next year and I'm interested in all postings on the Camino Madrid section of the forum, particularly guides etc.

Buen Camino.

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.

That is all I used. Just printed off the pages. It was perfect.

I bought the Madrid guidebook from the CSJ site in UK.

St James' Way - Self-guided 4-7 day Walking Packages, Reading to Southampton, 110 kms
Kindle version is an option. I have it on my phone and it's perfectly readable and highly recommended - using it for planning my CdM in 2020.
I had it on phone too for 2018. I had printed copious notes from forum to take with me also ; so having it on phone is much lighter.
Also had tracks to follow on maps me (in case ).

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

€83,-
Guess I have to try kindle too. Most worried about the climb over the mountain between Cercedilla and Segovia.

Hoping by May you’ll have a clear run over Fuenfria pass Ranthr,
Try to stop with Ray n Rosa. You’ll get the best advice from them. They are truly so helpful.
The 3 of us were advised to ‘train’ to Segovia in 2018. . It was late March though and best to listen to those that really know.
I’m thinking you’ll be lucky though and get to walk it.
Buen camino

I had the exact same question as you. I'm from the USA and we always write the month first, yet I know much of the EU and UK do the opposite.

I have a guide from 2017/2018. Give me your adress and I will send it to you :)

@Roger Hogstrom ,Tusen takk for tilbudet!
Thank you very much for your offer. That´s very kind of you!
But I managed to install a kindleapp on my phone and bought the book from amazon. It worked well. So with Stripey Sock´s maps, gronze and maps.me I guess I will manage.

Even with some suggestions from the forum discussions written on a piece of a paper you can walk CdM without much trouble.

For Fuenfria Pass (in May) you can never be really sure because it depends on the weather but usually the snow is longer on the ground on the north side which is much less steep and therefore less hassle than from Cercedilla to Fuenfria. The only downside would be sudden higher temperatures so you'd have to walk in knee deep snow. Otherwise it was quite passable in second half of April 2018.

€2,-/day will present your project to thousands of visitors each day. All interested in the Camino de Santiago.

Thanks for sharing! Madrid had so many genuinely nice people when I visited there. And I don`t mean just the tourist places whose job it is to be welcoming and helpful....I mean total strangers in public with virtually nothing to gain from me. For me, the people there are the city's greatest treasure, not all the famous and popular attractions, and I had to go there to find that out. I also want to add my two cents https://aktis.taxi/

There is another new guide book on the Camino Madrid : The Camino Madrid Handbook - the REVISED and UPDATED 2020 Edition are now AVAILABLE at Barrera Books - at www.BarreraBooks.com
& at Amazon: http://bit.ly/BarreraBooksAtAmazon...

I just bought it from Amazon as a kindle to have a look. After reading som pages, I dońt think I would have bother to carry the paperback version on the camino. The maps were not good in kindleversion, not possible to read the streetnames from the maps of towns you pass. Perhaps this is better in the book? Not much information either.
Compared to the Johnny Walker guidebook ( kindleversion 2017/18) I think the JW is much more informative even if there are more maps in the other.

Good to know. Thanks for the information

There is an easy to use, printable Max Long map and guide to the Madrid Camino- worked for me! A donation to the Confraternity of St. James is all that's required.
