Hello all after walking three Camino,s inside two years and having them change my life totally I have finally finished my book on the subject I have to warn you it will not be everyone cup of tea. As there is a lot of God in it and a bit of bloody as well. It is about who I was before the Camino experiences and who I am now. It is now available on Kindle will be out in paperback later. The book is called ( Gods Cocaine. the Addiction of the Camino) God bless you all.
Hello again.
Thought I would give you some background on writing this book it took me over a year to complete it and after using several editors and getting as many different opinions as to how the book should read I just decided to put it out there.
I know it has many typos,s but the message is still the same.
You need to understand that I have never written anything before and also I have never read a book right through before as I boarder on a dyslexic.
At the end of the day, it is what it is.
In this forum, we are all talking to the converted but I am hoping that one day I can hear back from a reader that can say apart from the typos I relate to your story I am like you. You have done something for me.
That would be fantastic. God bless.

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
A good title, I'll check it out.

I hope it carries a strong warning for 'wannabe' Pilgrims!
They just don't realise how walking a Camino can utterly turn your life upside down

As you know only too well, there are posts on here, almost on a daily basis.

"I'm just going to walk for 7 days, what route or section would you recommend?"

"I just have 10 days, I just want to see some of the sights"

"I'm not Religious or Spiritual.........I just like hiking"

Oh, and the Classic one!

"I'm just going to walk the last 100 kms from Sarria"!

Yes.....

That's how it all starts..... All very innocent.
"Just a few days, that will do me".

Before they even finish, they're thinking about the next one!
Longer Routes
Harder Routes
More Isolated Routes.........

And perhaps worst of all.........they start to involve their friends and family..........
'Pushing' the idea on those who never even heard of the Camino!

And then they end up in that 'spiral' of never feeling quite at ease at home
Always thinking of the next Camino....

Spending hours on this Forum..............

Indeed. God's Cocaine! :):)

Looking forward to reading your book! -- I mentioned to my husband that I wanted to go back to the camino, his reply was "How many times are you going to do that?". I just kind of looked at him....

I hiked 15 miles with my boy scouts Wednesday (January 1st, our First Day Hike), and woke up the next day ready to head out for 15 or 23 more.

I've done only two, 10 years apart. I did a talk on the Camino at a fellowship group three weeks ago and it was as if I was on the Camino again, I dream of my next one, but finances could be a problem, South African currency !!
I walked the Portuguese with my niece in August, then the Meseta on my own and that was an experience that I would not forget ever.
"El Camino es uno droga"!!!

I am one of those camino addicts. Almost annually since 2006, sometimes twice a year. Many routes walked, many more to come, I hope.
My friends and family tolerate my rants on the camino and they love me. But it is great to meet and talk with a believer.

Thankyou Sue hope you are doing OK. It seems the film is doing very well opening in a lot of countries. We may get a payout soon Year right. Stay safe God bless.

Hi, Terry. I've just started reading your book on Kindle. Very good so far. I'm up to your change of trains at Bayonne. I don't understand what happened with the train time of departure. Was it a misprint, or did you read it wrong? In Venice, 3s and 5s look almost the same in the numbers over doors. You said that the guard looked at your ticket "with some amusement" -- did you ever find out why?

"... and I don't think I ever heard of anything going missing while on the Camino." -- sad to say, I was walking with an Italian surgeon whose rucksack was stolen from the albergue in Burgos (echoes of "The Way"!) while he was at Mass. Fortunately, he had all the really important stuff with him, so he was able to buy new gear. But it just goes to show, you can't be too careful. And you can read of many more thefts on this forum.

On the Meseta. Do you remember the name of the village where you met "Father Christmas"? It was just before Mansillas de Las (Mulas).
The only thing wrong with your book so far, for me, is that you don't mention the names of many of the places that you are talking about. It could be just me, and it won't matter to many people, I'm sure. Like the village where you and Larry walked into after 27 km.
I'm up to 'Gulpi' and the orange juice machine. But I've never heard of a place called Gulpi and I can't guess what it could be a typo for. Can you help?

It’s a shame the OP has left the forum. I bought “God’s Cocaine” a while ago, but am only reading it now.

It is very good.

I'm glad he told us about the dyslexia, as I can read it with that in mind. (Grammatical errors really bug me in published books.)

I love his sense of humour, and I can also feel his pain.

It’s his story of finding his long-lost two friends again (his God and himself) through walking the camino.

It’s not about the actual places he walks through - they are totally irrelevant to finding himself . . . .

It’s a good read.

wow! You put it into perfect words. I actually just wanted to go on a 4 day hike at the Mosel in Germany and a friend recommend: walk on the Mosel Camino and not the other path. Get a credential and you can collect stamps. I met a couple other pilgrims who talked about Spain and after the four days, I was obcessed about going to Spain, which I Did just three months later. On my way home I already started to plan the next Camino.
And now: I just want to walk... :)

buen Camino fellow pilgrims ;)

Edit: i forgot, if anyone is interested, I have a YouTube channel for my Addiction ;) it is more a journal of my hikes and pilgrimages, nothing too great, but anyone who wants to watch is welcome to come along fellow addicts haha ;) Pilgrim Miriam on YouTube

Found it! The word is "Galp" and it's not the name of a place, it's the name of the company that runs the petrol station, Galp Energia, SGPS, S.A. Luckily, it shows up on Google Maps north of Mansilla de las Mulas.

I have just read Terry's book and really enjoyed it. Not so much a detailed description of the Way but a series of anecdotes that show humour and/or deeper insight . The Santiago hotel story absolutley cracked me up! 😂 Having watched the documentary 'Camino Skies' I can see how having to walk with the same people every day could be rather difficult in the way he describes in the book, however the joy of the Camino even under adverse conditions comes through.
