A newbie here, a question I am sure that has been asked before re booking accommodation at Orreaga.
I sent a booking request for late April over a month ago but have not heard back , sure I hold tight or try contacting them.
Thanks in advance.

A guide to speaking Spanish on the Camino - enrich your pilgrim experience.
Hola @Zamora and welcome to the Forum. Now, me I have a problem with the big Albergue Colegiata (but that's just me. Colegiata has 183 beds over 4 levels.. There is a phone number (spanish +34) 948 760 000. There was a problem a few years back when they were not accepting bookings but I have not heard anything either way recently. If the Albergue does not come back there are at least 2 or 3 options, but they are a little pricey. I am sure someone with better knowledge will soon get you the answer you need. (Its interesting that you used the Basque spelling for Roncesvalles). Cheers

If it’s been a month and this is the Roncesvalles albergue, I’d be contacting them. They are open all year, unlike Orrison and many others which close in winter and just check their emails and such occasionally.

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.

Welcome to the forum, @Zamora. What do you mean by "sent a booking request" to the Roncesvalles albergue? The recommended way to book a bed is via their website. Did you do this? Use this address as it is already set to English: http://www.alberguederoncesvalles.com/index.php?idioma=2

A small number of people from outside Europe cannot complete the online booking because their credit card is not set up for the kind of secure transactions that the website requires but that is a different issue.

Edited to add: I see that you are from the UK so your credit card features shouldn't be an issue, Brexit or no Brexit. 🤭

I never heard of Orreaga or Albergue Colegiata. I had to look them both up. I just always thought it was Ronsevalles and the Pilgrim Hostel. Now I know the names of both hahaha!

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.
Albergue Colegiata is not the name of the pilgrims albergue in Roncesvalles. It means that it is not a municipal pilgrims albergue and not a parochial pilgrims albergue but a collegiate pilgrims albergue, belonging to the collegiate church of Roncesvalles, a special administrative church form which few non-Spanish pilgrims have ever heard of.

The albergue has a proper name which I can't remember but it starts with an "A", in contrast to the older albergue that is no longer used and starts with an "I". These names are not important. Albergue de peregrinos de Roncesvalles or pilgrims hostel in Roncesvalles is just fine to identify what you mean. End of lesson. 🙃

Thanks for all your help.l have been a complete idiot ! All sorted now.
I would like to blame it on old age but I'm only 58 ! , think I'll blame it on brexit instead.😎

@Kathar1na, you were right about the initial letters! The name of the new albergue is Aterpea, the name of the old albergue (which is no longer in use for a few years) is Itzandeguia.

Orreaga is the Bask name for Roncesvalles.

All sorted now.
Good to hear. Let me guess: the second send button? Don't blame yourself or poor old Brexit. They could word this web stuff differently, with the external user in mind ... Any other questions? We're eager to help and to share what we know 😊. And let me wish you already a Buen Camino!

Ideal pocket guides for during & after your Camino. Each weighs only 1.4 oz (40g)!
According to two online dictionaries Aterpea is a Basque word meaning refuge or shelter.

hi Zamora, I am walking Camino Frances end of April this year, I booked online last week and heard back pretty much instantly, I booked via their website instead of sending an email, maybe that is the reason I heard back so quickly. hope that is helpful Janine

Hi Janine
I did not press the final send, all sorted now.
Thanks

I really appreciate your feedback, @Zamora, thank you for that. All to often, posters don't come back when they have solved their problem, yet understanding what the issue was in the first place and how the problem was solved is very useful to know for the forum collective as it can help to pinpoint the cause when a similar problem or the same problem occurs again for someone else.
