I have been compiling distances from various points to Santiago from around the Iberian peninsular and thought it might be useful to share my findings here. I actually had a hard time finding some of the data but needed to do so for a project I am working on, so I figured it might be helpful to someone at least!

These are the approximate distances from various starting points. Almeria seems to be the furthest recognised starting point from within Spain, and somewhere I hope to be in March to start my next journey to Santiago.

115 km Ferrol
260 km Porto
321 km Oviedo
610 km Lisbon
685 km Madrid
774 km St Jean Pied de Port
825 km Irun
850 km Somport (via Puente la Reina)
910 km Faro (via Santarem)
961 km Sevilla (via Sanabres)
1005 km Huelva
1089 km Cordoba (via Merida & Sanabres)
1134 km Cadiz
1140 km Montserrat (via Logrono)
1160 km Alicante (via Burgos)
1177 km Granada (via Merida & Sanabres)
1200 km Bareclona (via Montserrat)
1223 km Malaga (via Merida & Sanabres)
1290 km Valencia (via Zamora)
1395 km Almeria (via Merida & Sanabres)

Some big journeys right there!

Just one question: Valencia via Zamora and then???

I mean Levante ends and connects with VdlP in Zamora. So are those 1290 kms from Valencia through Zamora and via Sanabres or continuation on VdlP to Astorga and then on Frances?

And if you continue on VdlP from Zamora to Astorga what do you do in Ponferrada? Stay on Frances or veers off to the left on Invierno?

What are those distances?

Never mind, I'm just teasing you because it's completely irrelevant how many kilometers/miles there are.

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
I have walked the VDLP all the way to Astorga and wouldn't wish that final stretch on anyone!

Please, can you tell me why? I have been planning to walk from El Cubo de Tierra del Vino to Astorga this Easter, thereby finishing our walk, that started in Seville several years ago. (We have enough Compostelas for now, and aren't planning to walk to Santiago on this route.)

Ok, maybe I am being a little unfair to be honest. I suppose I found it a lonely route after Granja where I was with a nice group of people. They all went the Sanabres Way, but my stubborn side wanted to walk the VDLP to it's official finish in Astorga. There were hardly any markings going into Astorg, nor was there any official finish either, which as the time seemed disappointing, but is actually no big deal.

I also found services to be pretty lacking, routing to be sometimes way off and had some issues with dogs too, but these are my own experiences and bad luck, so it could be different for other pilgrims.

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.
