I understand your sadness because I feel it too. That said, I wait in the USA to be eventually allowed back in your country to walk in relative freedom again... and without concern.

There are many of us missing out and no doubt thousands of plans have been ditched. It’s very disappointing. Even so it’s worth reminding ourselves that this is temporary. Vaccines are being tested as we speak and with luck we’ll have something soon. If not then surely next year we’ll have something. In the meantime the best thing we can do, especially us “old fellas” and “gals” is to keep fit and remain hopeful and optimistic. Is it called ‘faith?’ Keep faith. When we do get to our pilgrims route it’ll be all the sweeter, all the more rewarding and ever so much more meaningful. This “young fella” is Patiently Counting the Days but not dismissing them. We are, after all, in the Grandest Camino of all.

I share your disappointment. Today would have been my last day in Santiago after six weeks on the Camino Frances. It was supposed to mark the end of a chapter in my life, having just lost my dear wife and a new beginning. I am determined to go whenever we get the “all clear” and the infrastructure opens ip again - all in God’s time. I know many people have suffered far, far more than my cancelling my trek, so that helps me keep things in perspective. I hope you get to go soon.

I'm sorry for the loss of your wife Michael. I hope you are able to make your new beginning nevertheless and can follow the camino very soon. Fortunately I live close enough to just up and go when conditions improve, jump onto a bus or train with my bicycle and go. Fingers crossed; it could even be later this year.

Thanks Rafikiphoto. Funny, I’ve been working on my bike too, as part of my coping with the isolation, but I plan to walk the Camino rather than ride. Being avid cyclist, I think I would like to bike at least a portion of a future Camino at some point.

Good plan. I found the early part of our lockdown the hardest. No outside exercise permitted. I used my old exercise bike on the patio but it's not the same. I used to put my tablet on the console and follow bikepacking tourists on YouTube on routes all over the world. It has eased now and we can cycle outside but only within the municipality.

So very sorry to read of the loss of your wife and the postponement of your Camino in preparation for a new chapter of life for you.

I am with you, Rafiki, I just can’t do stationary bikes and treadmills. Too boring. Fortunately it’s a lot more permissive in Florida. I have been able to either hike 15 Km, run 10-12 Km or bike 50 Km on the trails and country roads - all while keeping social distancing. If I didn’t have that I would have gone crazy. I hope you’re able to get out as soon as the isolation rules are loosened. Stay safe and healthy.

Thank you Lexi. I’m not the only one. I know there are many people who have planned for and dreamed of going on the Camino for years only to see their hopes dashed. This is so much more than the average holiday. It is truly a pilgrimage. When we all finally get to go I know how much more precious and worth it the Camino will be.

I was supposed to leave the US and start my second Camino on May 1st. Today I was to be heading into Astorga. I know how you feel. Prayers for the speedy recovery of our countries.

If you do, make it the VdlP/Sanabres from Sevilla - a majestic ride. And you can interact with the walkers without feeling that you're often a nuisance.

That must be very disappointing, I'm sure your time will come soon. Maybe, by way of a small consolation and some pre-camino training, you might be able to walk or cycle on parts of the Camino Mozárabe within the area that you're permitted to move in. I know that won't be anywhere near the same, but it might help test the bike, the gear, the legs etc.

Hopefully you may be one of the first to get back on the Camino from Australia I can’t see anything happening this year. Mine was supposed to be Sept.

I hope so too. Things are getting better. Our lockdown easing has progressed to phase 2 now and I can cycle out any distance at any time from yesterday so long as I remain within the province. Fingers crossed we don't get a significant spike as we ease off. We have been fortunate with no cases in our community. Low population density.

Today would have been the middle of my 5th Camino, arriving into Santiago on my birthday June 6th. Hey ho! It’s the strangest of times but lockdown is like a stationary Camino. Enjoy.

It's very encouraging to me to see all the pilgrims who will be walking/biking the Camino as soon as we get the chance! I hope the albergues are ready for us. Hope they can survive all of this.
