Dear fellow pilgrims,

My partner and I are extremely excited about opening a cozy little rural hotel on the Primitive way. It's time to take that final leap of hope and actually decide for one of the different options we're currently considering. You can help us with that decision by completing this 3 question survey, it will take less than one minute: https://forms.gle/HthAbgxmmfDfrJg46

Thanks a lot in advance for your help and for putting some of your time on this.
Hope to see many of you back on the Way soon! Ultreia :)!

Down bag (90/10 duvet) of 700 fills with 180 g (6.34 ounces) of filling. Mummy-shaped structure, ideal when you are looking for lightness with great heating performance.

€149,-
I did the survey, but had trouble with the second question. I prefer a mix of different types of accommodations, so it was hard to choose one answer. I chose albergues, because I usually stay in albergues more than half the time, but I enjoy the other types of accommodations too, especially when the price is good.

€2,-/day will present your project to thousands of visitors each day. All interested in the Camino de Santiago.
Trecile makes a good point. I also stay in a variety of accommodation - If I have a choice, my decision will emerge from fuzzy logic (weighing up pros and cons), and emotion (how I'm feeling that day).

I am more likely to stay at a hotel-type facility if I know that it has pilgrim-oriented facilities (e.g. washing machine and dryer - whether included or for an additional fee / space to socialize with fellow pilgrims - even in the yard / guest kitchen / communal table). The more your communication makes clear that you have understood and prepared for the needs of pilgrims, the better.

Agreed. I chose casa rurales, as that's what I'll probably use when I go again. But I like, and have used, a variety of accommodations. I really prefer albergues, but I'll have to see how they shape up under new regulations. 🙂

Done. Best wishes for your future plans. Some more Casa Rurales on the Camino Primitivo would be very welcome.

Done! I second @trecile and @Raggy.

As I understood from your survey your rural hotel would be more than 1 km from the Camino? My impression is that offering pilgrim accomodation off the Camino can be quite a challenge. Of course it depends on how many alternatives pilgrims have, but it is something I would take into account.

Is your hotel (to be) away from villages or towns? That could make it even harder. I myself (but that is personal of course) often get bored somewhere late afternoon. Walking around town, visiting a chapel or a church, buy breakfast for the next morning, having a chat with pilgrims staying in other albergues or having a beer on a terrace is a nice distraction then.

All in all, I think you will need something 'extra' to offer. A communal meal, a nice garden with a terrace, hammocks, a little library, board games or music instruments to play, pods instead of bunks, a stunning view, a massage or whatever.

Free pick up and return to the Camino. The Primitivo has some tough days and the last thing I want to is walk an extra 2 + kms. Maybe offer packed lunches for the next day? We stayed at one albergue toward the last couple of days that was a kilometer off the road and they came to pick us up. Even drove us all to the nearby restaurant ( there was only 1) and back. They also had take out menus for a place that delivered (or maybe it was pick up) pizza and stuff.

I stayed at one place on the Norte, Casa Capion, that was about 4 km from the Camino. I was instructed to phone them when I reached a particular restaurant, and they picked me up there. It was a casa rural (they now also have a new albergue next door). All of us who stayed that evening opted for the communal dinner and breakfast. In the morning they drove us back to the restaurant. The only problem with this kind of set up is that unless you want to walk the extra distance, you are on someone else's schedule.

For me (I guess for being an introvert) that would be something I would try to avoid. Having to phone somebody (maybe disturbing that person), having to wait for a car, get into that car sweaty and dirty, having to chat. And then back to the camino the next day on a scedule as well.

But this is just one personal opinion. I think it has a lot to do with how many alternatives pilgrims have. I am pretty sure that you wouldn't survive as an albergue owner on the Francés being 2 km away from the camino.

Done. Good luck.

Regarding the type of accommodation question, I have used all three of your options. Perhaps the "other" option to that question could be changed to " all of the above"?

Buen Camino

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

€46,-
Hecho @valenmunoz ! I´d be very interested to hear how you get on with your project as I am looking into buying a small casa rural/pension on or near a camino imminently too! ¡Suerte!
