Would love to go now that places are opening up, but the cautious side of me (very attached to my wallet) says I should wait until there is better travel insurance.

Has anyone found suitable (EU) travel insurance that reflects the change in travel

ā‚¬2,-/day will present your project to thousands of visitors each day. All interested in the Camino de Santiago.

Post Covid? I don't think there will ever be a post Covid .... but you are right - travel insurance will be interesting .. though, the small print on pre-plague travel insurance always excluded pandemics - so will be the same I think - but what do I know! :D

I've tried getting a quote and some will repariate me, some will pay out if I have to cancel for specific reasons, but none will pay out due to a further Covid outbreak.

I may have to book and take the hit.

That could be some hit.

In the UK our beloved children's writer Michael Rosen, was in ICU for 47 days can you imagine how much that would cost without our NHS?

Then there was a report last week of a Covid survivor in Seattle who ran up quite a big bill:

"SEATTLE -- Dubbed the "miracle child" after two months in the hospital, 70-year-old Michael Flor survived COVID-19 only to receive a bill listing out more than $1 million in charges for his time in the hospital.

The 181-page bill included $9,700 in charges for each day Flor spent in intensive care as well as an $80,000 charge for the 29 days Flor spent on a ventilator. And his care isn't over yet: Flor remains on dialysis as he continues to recover from COVID-19.

Medicare will likely cover most of Flor's charges, and the federal government did pass legislation earlier this year providing funds for coronavirus care. If a hospital receives those funds, patients should be protected from surprise medical bills."

Still ready to "take the hit" - bearing in mind they'd be unlikely to repatriate a C19 case until the patient had recovered?

Not sure about "post Covid" as we will probably be living with this virus for some time to come
Re insurance
Try STAYSURE

They will not cover you if you have to cancel a trip because of the virus but they will cover medical expenses if you unfortunately happen to catch the virus while you are abroad
At least that's what they told me recently
However if you travel abroad against government advice EG essential travel only at the moment....any policy will be invalidated

That could be some hit.

Wow! First prize for finding worst cases goes to you šŸ…

I received an email today from Seven Corners a health insurance travel company that we have used. They are writing policies that cover health related expenses up to $100,000. I do not know about trip cancellation or interruption as we do not purchase those parts. The email says they will cover 5-364 days. We're not ready yet, but I'm not going to delete it.

Down bag (90/10 duvet) of 700 fills with 180 g (6.34 ounces) of filling. Mummy-shaped structure, ideal when you are looking for lightness with great heating performance.

No, the worst cases are the 440,000 people that have died so far.

An hour ago I got an email from a friend (retired doctor with a lot of experience dealing with epidemics when she worked with MSF) who wrote:

"Iā€™m feeling a bit better physically (ill health but not C19) but not about whatā€™s happening globally with Covid. The surge is going to be this summer, not in the autumn, with outbreaks flaring up in all sorts of places where people are crowded together again, like Meat factories or night clubs. One of the medical officers in Ireland notes the numbers of Covid infections rising among young people who are now mixing socially once more and, of course, it will find its way back to the sick and elderly vulnerable again."

I'll take her advice and hunker down until it's really "mission accomplished"

Emirates have announced free Covid insurance cover when you fly with them.

That seems like a very sensible marketing technique. I would not be surprised to find other airlines taking up that idea. I have also been in contact with United HealthCare Global and they told me the same thing that @Annette found in her earlier post. Their medical insurance covers covid medical expenses, but their trip cancellation insurance excludes coverage under the pandemic rubric. Iā€™m not saying Iā€™m heading out any time soon (seeing as I am banned from entry, that would be hard), but I do think that once travel begins to normalize we will be able to get medical insurance to cover expenses for treatment (also evacuation and if necessary repatriation of remains). This doesnā€™t eliminate all of the risks, of course, because you might also have expensive rebooking of flights, expensive required quarantines, etc, but the spectre of bankruptcy triggered by covid medical expenses while traveling abroad seems less of a problem than I thought initially.

Buen camino, Laurie

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

Camino pathways challenge in unexpected ways - my personal experiences on the Way have taught me that travel insurance is not a Plan B even in a COVID19 free world. I recently wrote about my experiences with injury, travel insurance and recovery in the hope that those seeking to walk this year would go armed with a Plan B. It wasn't a story that I particularly wanted to share - but having read different opinions on whether or not to walk, I decided I should. This is the link if you're interested Wayā€™s to Santiago de Compostela
