Hello everyone. As soon as australia will let me out I'll be off to Norway to walk. Does anyone have info on the North Path to Stiklestad. I can find very little info. Is it way-marked? food?accommodation etc.
thank you

You might try this for a start: https://pilegrimsleden.no/en/trails/nordleden, or search using st olavs ways norway nordleden or some variant of that. The link @Tincatinker provided is to the Swedish S:T Olavsleden, and the Nordleden won't be described there.

I haven't walked it. The few things I've seen suggest that there isn't a lot of accommodation, and camping would be needed. My experience with other Norse routes is that they are well way-marked, but the site suggests that this trail is unmarked. I also cannot help you with supplies, other than there don't appear to be many places where you might do a grocery shop.

€2,-/day will present your project to thousands of visitors each day. All interested in the Camino de Santiago.

Hello, @annandkerith,

From the Pilegrimsleden.no website:
'Nordleden lacks accommodation and is best suited for pilgrims who prefers tents and sleeping bags, and who can orient themselves by map and compass. The trail is unmarked.'

*Map: Nordleden with accommodation suggestions.
There is a contact address at the bottom of the page for anyone with questions. Perhaps you have already come across this info...

Happy planning

There is a good guide book that you can order online through that site as well. I used it when I walked it 2 years ago and it was really helpful to find accommodation, food, maps, etc. It was really helpful in some areas where I couldn’t get an internet connection.

I live in Trondheim, and have received pilgrims as a volunteer at the pilgrims reception at the Nidaros Pilgrim Center for many years. Very few walk Nordleden. Most pilgrims in Norway walk Gudbrandsdalsleden, and number two used is St. Olavsleden from Sundsvall, Sweden to Stiklestad and Trondheim. These two ways are well-marked and accommodation OK. You will find information at the planning site stolavways.com
I think you will have to plan for next year. For now the government has set a date for travelling to Norway from EU/Schengen, but nothing about countries outside Europe. Even if you come from Sweden you now have to go in quarantine for 10 days after crossing the border.

Feel free to ask any questions that you have.

I can tell you that there aren’t the same facilities that we are used to in Spain or Portugal and you’ll need a sleeping bag - dome of the accommodations were pretty primitive and there was at least one time we had to swim to clean ourselves up after a long day.

There also weren’t many restaurants or stores along the trail so be prepared to carry your own food at times. my wife insisted I take a small jar of peanut butter (I’m from Canada) and I ate peanut butter sandwiches for dinner a few times).

The people were friendly and hospitable. The scenery was amazing and it was a fabulous experience.

The one thing that we learned is that guide books don’t always tell you is that lots of things close down in August. I’d recommend you go before August.

Down bag (90/10 duvet) of 700 fills with 180 g (6.34 ounces) of filling. Mummy-shaped structure, ideal when you are looking for lightness with great heating performance.

I recall that when I first became interested in the St Olav's Ways, one of the Norse pilgrim association websites made it quite clear when the route opened and closed. I understood this to refer in particular to the herberges, outside of the major towns or to places that might have only been made habitable in the summer and locked up otherwise. There were a couple of places that seemed to be summer holiday areas where shops might also have closed in winter if there was no active local winter sports to bring in customers.

Thank you all for such a speedy response. Yes, I am thinking of 2021 - it seems we won't be allowed to leave Oz before July 2021 at the earliest and who knows....but by then things will be clearer. I walked the Gudbransal track from Oslo to Trondheim in 2008 and met only 1 other pilgrim so I was amazed to read that that route is now the most popular. I had decided on the St Olavsleden for 2021 but, having looked at Sweden's Covid stats am thinking that staying in Norway is safer. I am thinking now that I will do a section of the E1 before connecting tothe St Olavsleden at the border. It goes thru similar country but is waymarked. I will email Eivind in Oslo - he may have a suggestion. There's plenty of planning time between now and then.
My thanks to you all, once again.
