Same route as GR 34 – Le sentier des douaniers? That is stunning.

The Tro Breizh goes mostly inland, Raggy! How stunning that is I do not know. I walked my version of it 20 years ago, the year the "group" walked the last of the seven weekly stages after theTro Breizh was re-established. I think they had not yet finished the signposting and anyway the number of those who were walking it had grown to over a thousand with accommodation and meals organized in schools and gym halls etc. I prefer to walk alone and love to walk by the sea - so I followed the GR34 from Ploumanac'h to Treguier (St. Tugdual), St. Brieuc and St. Malo, then down via Dol (St. Samson) to Vannes (St. Patern) and Quimper (St. Corentin) and up again to St. Pol de Leon and back on to the GR34 and home. Thus the 600 km became 1000 km, but I had visited the seven saints all the same. During this long walk I conceived the idea of walking to Santiago from home - ten years' gestation! And a very happy result! But that is a different story...

As to the Tro Breizh, apparently it has greatly developped, is completely signposted and there is a very complete guide issued by
Association Les Chemins du Tro-Breiz et Bernard Rio
Le Guide du TRO BREIZ
Le Tour de Bretagne a Pied en 47 Etappes
coop breizh

I hope to walk it along the official lines eventually. When???

PS to my post above: I have another guide which is half the size/weight of the one I mentioned above:

Gaelle de La Brosse, Francois Lepere, Ronan Perennnou
Sur les chemins du Tro-Breiz, le tour de la Bretagne
Editions Lepere

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

I spent some time between St. Brieuc and St. Malo recently. A little stretch of GR34 was my daily walk. I met a guy in December a couple of years ago, who was walking along the coast with the eventual aim of reaching southern Spain (i.e. walk all the way around Brittany, then join up with the Via Turonesis, and the Camino del Norte, then south through Portugal ... ) He had started in Belgium. What an adventure.

What an adventure indeed! I continued along the French Atlantic coast after walking round Brittany, then the Norte to Santiago and on to the Cap de Finisterre. A fair adventure too. Most satisfying! Would do it again if I had the time...

It will be soon 50 years that I live in Spain, but I never forget that my best remembrances of youth are our frequent holidays in Brittany. At that time I didn't know about Tro Breizh, and now find it very attractive.
Moreover, there are the seven founding saints of Brittany, but for mi wife and I, there is an eighth one: San Vicente Ferrer, born here in Valencia, y dead and buried there in Vannes. (so a link between Valencia and Brittany). I hope the life lets us time to visit again this beloved land.

Hi Jean-luc! Can you please give me/us some details of San Vicente Ferrer.

I have just now/today met a fellow Bretonne from this forum, Rozenn from Aber Wrac’h, who is walking with her daughter for about a week on the Sentier des Douaniers between Lannion and Plougrescant.

Hi,

More info on the Tro Breiz :

- the route is specific, different from the coastal GR34.

- for individual hikers/pilgrims : much work in progress, with signposting, new guide books, accommodation arrangements...
Completed, at this stage, between Quimper and Treguier : https://www.montrobreizh.bzh

- a collective "marche d'été" (summer walk). The 2020 event (Dol-de-Bretagne to Rennes) has been postponed to 2021 for obvious reasons. More details here.

Hi NavyBlue! I have just looked up the thread you indicate. Most informative for anyone thinking of walking the Tro Breizh! Thank you! When looking up the Tro Breizh link however I did not understand why the number of saints was increased to 9, including Rennes and Nantes....

As for San Vicente Ferrer, I found him on Wikipedia.

The number of saints/cathedrals has been increased exceptionally to 9, with Rennes and Nantes, to include the whole of the historical Brittanny.

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
Sorry Pelerine, I didn't see your question. I Will answer soon

August, 4th
Here is an abstract about San Vicente Ferrer.
Buen camino
Jean-Luc

Sorry again, I situated in my note the historical context of S.Vicente's life, and didn't indicate who ruled French Brittany: in those years they were first the Widow Duchess Consort Jeanne de Flandres (ho! my land of origen) and later Duque John 4th.
