In his current article for the BBC 26/11 /2020 Len Williams describes the recent aĺlure for Medieval Style Travel in Britain, Spain and Japan. The varied routes discussed show that "even in the past, the sightseeing was as important as the spirituality."
Reading this illustrated account is a fine way to dream of routes to follow post pandemic.

Join our full-service guided tour and let us convert you into a Pampered Pilgrim!
A fun article but one with a classic whoopsy: anyone who thinks the Old Way connects Dover & Stonehenge didn't even read the intro on the BPT website https://britishpilgrimage.org/old-way/ though the link with Canterbury, Beckett and Henry II is there for us all to embrace.

Now, link the https://www.nationaltrail.co.uk/en_GB/trails/north-downs-way/ with the https://www.nationaltrail.co.uk/en_GB/trails/the-ridgeway/ and you'll get into the pathways of serious flint knapping pilgrims who were, perhaps, more interested in Sun than Son ;).

Not bad !!

I only have one quibble -- describing a scrip as a "wallet" is a little misleading.

But from the OED "wallet" article :

1. a.1.a A bag for holding provisions, clothing, books, etc., esp. on a journey either on foot or on horseback; a pilgrim's scrip, a knapsack, a pedlar's pack, or the like.

A scrip was basically what they used prior to the invention of the backpack.

I prefer the older word "scrip" myself as trying to get the sarnies into the hip pocket takes a bit o doing! :)

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

€83,-
A scrip or skip, a container. Usually a leather bag - leather being cheaper and more readily available than woven cloth - carried by anyone who hadn’t a shelf or a wardrobe or anything more than a shoulder to hang it off. The two strapped scrip/skiff stopped it sliding off the shoulder and interfering with your fighting arm. Better swords or cudgels swung in anger than handbags at dawn 😉

Its funny, at shoots, I carry my version of a scrip..a largish laptop bag holding all my usual possible that is contained, controllable against theiving hands, scratches on expensive objects and easily carried.
For those who know, a leather bag in the same style which carries the name King Ranch...which I will use at a couple of stylish events ..ahh the smell of leather.
Along with that, In season, a duster of canvas does the weather proofing job for me, I wonder if there was a analog for a duster in those days?
But I would really groove on the all in one cloak..I imagine they were warm!

€2,-/day will present your project to thousands of visitors each day. All interested in the Camino de Santiago.

I have a confession. I am terrified of - and yes now feel free to laugh - the top bed in bunks with no railing/fence (something to stop you falling out). I've managed to get away with it except...

I was looking at the wisepilgrim app for the Frances route and noticed that the distances don't always add up from one side to the other. Has anyone else noticed this? Am I being overly observant...
