Learning Spanish Podcast - Recommendations?

While out walking I like to listen to various news podcasts. Clearly over the past year two topics have dominated the majority of these podcasts...no need to outline these here!

Having the most basic beginner level of Spanish I want/need to switch things up. In the Apple store there are many Learn Spanish podcasts so I am wondering if anyone has tried this approach.

Did it work for you? Any recommendations?

Appreciate any suggestions.

Gracias

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

You might want to check out the downloadable podcasts available on the website of Radio Nacional de España (RNE). When I was still working I used to listen to their talk radio and news podcasts during my morning commutes, and enjoyed them very much. RNE used to offer a huge selection of podcast programs. Not sure what is available at this time.

Although I have several years of Spanish classes, and know a lot of grammar and vocabulary, I have been learning a lot about how to use the language from Language Transfer, which is available as an app or podcast.

I can also recommend Coffee Break Spanish and Spanish Unlimited

Hi, i have a podcast app on my phone (android not apple) called iVoox - a Spanish friend recommended it to me. It has lots (and lots) of Spanish podcasts on it. I don't know but would assume there is an apple version of the app. How this helps.

I highly recommend Notes in Spanish with Ben and Marina. They have beginner level conversations (as well as intermediate and advanced for when you reach those levels!).
I second this. Ben and Marina are great! Ben is English, and his wife, Marina (from Madrid), helps him to improve his Spanish, all while discussing a range of interesting topics. In fact they even have a couple of conversations about the camino! (here and here - although these fall into the 'advanced' category so it's all in Spanish, without English commentary).

Down bag (90/10 duvet) of 700 fills with 180 g (6.34 ounces) of filling. Mummy-shaped structure, ideal when you are looking for lightness with great heating performance.

I am not sure what you mean by "Clearly over the past year two topics have dominated the majority of these podcasts...no need to outline these here!". As others have said Notes in Spanish have covered a variety of topics not just two. Duolingo podcasts also have a large variety of topics not just two, and 1001 Reasons to study Spanish also covers several topics. What two topics have dominated podcasts that you have been watching or listening to? There are just so many different ones out on so many platforms. I don't understand!!

@GuyA said that he had been listening to news podcasts, not Spanish podcasts, therefore what he had been listening to were the topics which have been newsworthy in the past year.

Sorry, I guess I missed the "news" part of his post, but I still do not understand the "Clearly over the past year two topics have dominated the majority of these podcasts", as podcasts such as News in Slow Spanish have covered a wide variety of topics. Nomadas also covers a wide variety of newsworthy topics as you said, but that still leaves me confused as to what "Clearly over the past year two topics have dominated the majority of these podcasts means since his thread is titled, "Learning Spanish Podcast- Recomendations?" Those podcasts mentioned have covered a variety of new and current events to help learn and/or increase our spanish comprehesion.

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.

I believe what he's saying is that a better use of his time might be spent learning Spanish via podcasts rather than listening to the news in English. ¿Comprendes?

No no comprendo, He says he listens to newspodcasts that only have two topics, which to me seems to be a bit strange, but then asks about Spanish learning podcasts. I am truly confused as he did not say that a better use of his time might be better spent learning Spanish via podcasts rather than listening to the news in English because he did not say that he was listening to the news podcasts in English. I guess I am just confused this evening. Anyway, there are several good Spanish podcasts out there. 🙂

Witsend, I've found Covid and US politics have dominated the news this year, as well as my Facebook feed, and understand why someone would want to turn away from this. Language podcasts seem like a great option. I appreciate the recommendations here

Notes on Spanish looks well done, but (obviously) tilted toward Spanish as spoken in Spain. Does anyone know of something similar with a Latin American orientation? I'll probably be spending more time "south of the border" than in Europe over next few years. Gracias!

Thanks everyone for recommendations...have started this morning with Ben and Marina and will do online work as well. A bit advanced maybe (started with beginners) however a welcome break.

Just to clarify my reference to two items were outgoing US President and COVID... I have been, will continue to take all recommended COVID précautions seriously and simply trust that all will be better in time. Hoping to resume a Camino in 2022...

Thanks

Guy

When I finally understood what the OP meant by news podcasts, since he is from Toronto I assumed he meant Covid and Brexit.

I have used Duo Lingo....but recently found "Spanish with Paul" on YouTube. It is much more effective (IMO)....and free....My sister is using Michelle Thomas Spanish...which is not free, but also highly recommended.

I think the Duolingo stories and podcasts are better than the practices, as they start off at a beginner level and slowly work up to a more advanced level. Espanol con Juan is also good, and he has just organized all his youtube videos according to level. I'll check out Spanish with Paul as it is new to me and I try to listen to different voices and accents. Thanks. :)

My son taught himself Welsh, and is now fluent. He started off using an app called 'Say Something in Welsh'. It's also available for Spanish (and other languages).

I'm from Toronto and I can say confidently that, while we do get some Brexit news here, the American political news is much more abundant, being located much closer to the US than to the UK.
