I've just discovered 'Pilgrimage: the Road to Rome' is airing on ABC+ (Ch22 free-to-air) at 9.30pm tomorrow night, Sunday 28 March.
It's a 3 part program with one episode per week. Unfortunately, tomorrow is episode 2 so if, like me, you missed the first ep, we can catch up on ABC iView.

This is the follow-up program to 'Pilgrimage: the Road to Santiago' which was shown here last Easter.
This new series is set on the Via Francigena following the same format; UK 'celebrities' (largely unknown to us here) walk small sections scattered along the trail before arriving at the Vatican. Two of the original cast return for this series...including the one who complained the most!
Of course it's very easy...in fact almost irresistible!...to pick holes in it but I was surprised how much I enjoyed the Camino Frances series.
Having walked the entire VF in 2019, I will be glued to it with finger hovering over the 'mute' button should Ms Complaints not have learnt from her first foray! 😆
Happy viewing everyone. 🤗

Is this the same show? I don't think that any of the celebrity participants are the same.

I Googled the new (to us, anyway!) program to try & work out how many episodes & what I had missed. Under 'cast' it had Kate Bottley & Ed Byrne...both of whom took part in the first series but didn't list others who had participated (such as Heather Small for example).
Maybe the two from the Camino series are just interview contributors rather than actual walkers?

Thanks for the query @Raggy ...I guess I'll find out when I watch it. Perhaps I won't need that mute button afterall...! 🤭

For anyone interested, in UK they are re-showing the third series of Pilgrimage on Friday nights on BBC2 at the moment - the Road to Istanbul.
It started last week and finishes on Good Friday. It is on iplayer. It was first on last year.
iplayer will not be available (directly) outside of UK

Down bag (90/10 duvet) of 700 fills with 180 g (6.34 ounces) of filling. Mummy-shaped structure, ideal when you are looking for lightness with great heating performance.

Shock Horror Pauline McLynn (Mrs Doyle in Father Ted the best Irish religious comedy ever) who is in this pilgrimage is a declared non-believer!

For those Aussies out there, The Road to Istanbul is on at the moment on Foxtel, if you have it

I watched part 1 Pilgrimage to Rome last week . I enjoyed it . Looking forward to watching part 2 tonite on Ch 22 at 9.30 pm . By the way , I do recognise one of the UK celebrities - Stephen K Amos he’s a comedian and has been coming to Australia for a few years for comedy shows/ specials / festivals etc and also appears on the odd quiz show here in Oz like Dave Hughes’ show , or ‘ Have you been paying attention’ or Ch10’s ‘the Project’ etc .

Can we assume that you are one of the celebrities featured?!
Haha! I try to keep below the radar generally.
They have done better than me - though they didn't walk all the way.
I am, metaphorically, run aground in Thessaloniki, like a container ship in Suez! I don't think I will get moving again this year, but hopeful for next year, and on to Jerusalem. I am enjoying learning Turkish at the moment, for the next stage.
I hope you are both keeping well. T

Unfortunately didn’t read this until this morning 29 March after walking for a few days of the Port Davey Track. Hopefully will be on iview and I can remember to mute Ms Complaints.

Great - definitely having a look at that - especially since it's got Stephen K Amos in it.

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

Definitely available on iView...I managed to squeeze in watching episode 1 before episode 2 aired last night.
And...mercifully, Ms Complaints from series 1 did not make an appearance so the mute button was spared a workout!
I have no idea why she was listed as a cast member for series 2...the internet being a totally reliable source of info & all... 😆

Wow...that 'like' was quick off the mark @timr...barely 30 seconds!
Even though you are stuck like a now infamous cargo freighter, glad you're still planning on moving forward when circumstances permit. And learning Turkish would certainly keep you occupied in the meantime! 😯
Best wishes.

Any plans yourself? I think it is going to be a while yet before we can move on this side of the world.

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.

Nothing on the horizon & not even making any plans. Of course Covid has impacted us, some more than others, but we've been fortunate & not had anywhere near the situation experienced in other parts of the world.
Australia's international borders are still closed & even travelling interstate can be dicey so I'm staying local for now.
Although as a front-line healthcare worker, I'm supposed to be in the first vaccination roll-out, there's still no date for the jab.
Also it's not just Aussie rules keeping me & plans/dreams grounded, it's the intended destination & enroute situation. I've actually been surprised I'm not as 'antsy' to get out there again as I thought I would be...perhaps it's just acceptance 🤷‍♀️
Take care...this thing is far from over.

🤣 Thanks for that @jungleboy, I couldn't figure the etymology of the word when I used it...not knowing the correct spelling didn't help! Now you've educated me, I've edited my post to the correct spelling rather than having such a blatant clanger (have fun with that one... 🤭) sitting there. 🙈 😉

I've just watched the first two episodes on iView. I enjoyed them immensely, much more than the first series.

I'm watching too, enjoying the great scenery and glimpses of albergue life. Covid vaccination started here in Adelaide about 4 weeks ago - I received my first pfizer jab last week. Linda

I did have a chuckle at all the anxiety & exhaustion caused by the participants actually having to walk 13 kilometres in a day 🙈 🤭 ... a few stating they'd never walked that far in their lives.
As a full VF veteran (incl PWC from London) who took 93 days all up to complete the 2120km, I hate to think how long it would have taken if 13km was a big day on the trail... 😄
The whole journey for the program is (was) 15 days & of that, 8 days will be spent on the last 100km...quick maths & I see a few more 13km days in their futures..! 😯 😆

The producers should have taken better care of the pilgrims.

1) They allowed the young men's competitive mindset to influence things too much -- They really should have had a word with them, if not for the "tone" of the program then for the sake of the health of the older guys who felt that they needed to match the pace set by an olympic athlete and a professional dancer half their age.

2) They filmed Katy Brand saying "I'm wearing wet socks. Is that going to be OK?" which should have been a red flag. She's a novice walker for goodness sakes. Rather than patching her up after she hurt herself and wrecked her chance of completing the pilgrimage, the production team should have been looking out for such issues and "taking care of the talent," The crew should have procured some dry socks for her immediately. Instead, they got to film the emotions that a pilgrim goes through when their dreams are dashed. I know how real that is - I've seen it more than once and we've all been through it with this pandemic, but I thought it was shoddy of the production team.
